This question came up in the ShoutBox... which of these lists is the worst?

My list has two Alanis Morissette songs, two Hootie and the Blowfish songs, AND "The Macarena" not once, but TWICE.  It's clearly the worst.

Morph's list has Bell Biv Devoe.  That alone keeps it out of the worst spot.

1998 wins for Time of Your Life (Good Riddance) by Green Day.

I refuse to hate Green Day. That song may well have murdered an orphan or two in its day, but I'm not hating Green Day.

Anyways, it's not on the list.

This song is, though: 10. I Don't Want to Wait, Paula Cole

Then there's all sorts of crazy songs I've never heard of by performers I never knew existed:

1. Too Close, Next
24. Body Bumpin Yippie-Yi-Yo, Public Announcement
26. I Don't Ever Want to See You Again, Uncle Sam
36. Deja Vu (Uptown Baby), Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz
94. Butta Love, Next

Lsg, Voices Of Theory, Sylk-E Fyne, K.P. and Envyi, Xscape, Lox, Inoj... Who the fuck are these people?

Jebus that song actually reminds me of the Fall of 1990, when I was a freshman in college.  The girl who lived next door to me was in a very dramatic on again/off again relationship with this big meatball roid-head on the other end of the floor who had a girlfirend that lived in the other tower.  And whenever their relationship would hit the skids (which happened...oh, about once a week), she would storm back to her room, slam her door shut, and proceed to blast this album.  Like I said, I lived next door to her, the dorms rooms at Northern (Grant Towers) were the size of broom closets, so yeah..it was actually pretty traumatic for me.   Thanks, morph.  Thanks a lot.

All I know is that CT's post above got the chorus of "Dazzey Duks" stuck in my head all day today.

And that probably gives him a bit of an edge.

Come on baby
Kick them Dazzeys

Such that it is.
They seriously couldn't at least get the misspellings in phonetic ballpark?

Chuck-- I see your 1985, and raise you one, 1986:

1. That's What Friends Are For, Dionne Warwick, Elton John, and Gladys Knight
2. Say You, Say Me, Lionel Richie
3. I Miss You, Klymaxx
4. On My Own, Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald
5. Broken Wings, Mr. Mister
6. How Will I Know, Whitney Houston
7. Party All The Time, Eddie Murphy
8. Burning Heart, Survivor
9. Kyrie, Mr. Mister
10. Addicted to Love, Robert Palmer

I can only listen to #10 without wanting to shove an ice pick in my ear

Other "Highlights"
31. When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going, Billy Ocean
39. Dancing On the Ceiling, Lionel Richie
60. We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off, Jermaine Stewart
67. Who's Johnny, El Debarge
77. Rumors, Timex Social Club
92. Spies Like Us, Paul McCartney

The Rumors knock off, "Roaches (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yygrgcOtezM)" by Bobby Jimmy & The Critters is good.  But not as good as "We Like Ugly Women."

Only 3 things need to be pointed out:
a. 1977
b. Disco
c. Saturday Night Fever

But if you want the ugly details:

1. Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright), Rod Stewart
2. I Just Want to Be Your Everything, Andy Gibb
3. Best of My Love, Emotions
4. Love Theme (From "A Star Is Born"), Barbra Streisand
5. Angel In Your Arms, Hot
6. I Like Dreamin', Kenny Nolan
7. Don't Leave Me This Way, Thelma Houston
8. (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher, Rita Coolidge
9. Undercover Angel, Alan O'Day
10. Torn Between Two Lovers, Mary MacGregor
11. I'm Your Boogie Man, K.C. and The Sunshine Band
12. Dancing Queen, Abba
13. You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, Leo Sayer

I feel lucky that I still have the ability to listen to any music at all.

It's like the every-other-decade theory, you know? The '50s were boring, the '60s rocked, and the '70s-- Oh, my god, they obviously suck. Come on. Maybe the '80s will be radical. You know?

5. On Bended Knee, Boyz II Men
6. Another Night, Real McCoy

10. This Is How We Do It, Montell Jordan

Is this the game?  To see how much your graduation year music sucked?

Coolio?  Seal?  TLC? Madonna? Mariah Carey?  Monica?

If this is the game, I win, suckas.

By the way, Senior Prom theme song was "The Way You Look Tonight" by Eric Clapton, and I have my 15 year reunion tonight.

Eagerly awaiting Stu's posting here...

I think we don't win, Powen. Some of these songs aren't that bad.

I mean that Montell Jordan track sampled Slick Rick's Children's Story so... yeah.

Nope. I'm an old man...'94. Some dude in my freshman year dorm loved TLC and played it all the time. Instead of driving me crazy I started to actually like it.

9. Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days), Monica

I mean that Montell Jordan track sampled Slick Rick's Children's Story so... yeah.

I didn't think they were all that bad either; I just thought that if I sounded confident enough in my response that I would win by default.  Seriously though, I hate Madonna.

TLC ain't bad.
THI

You a '95er too, Tone?

Nope. I'm an old man...'94. Some dude in my freshman year dorm loved TLC and played it all the time. Instead of driving me crazy I started to actually like it.

I'll even go so far as to say that Monica song is fucking hilarious and worthwhile just for the lolz. Who doesn't like making fun of snotty chicks.

So to sum up.

1995, bitches.

My 20th HS reunion is tonight.  Should I print out my list and bring it, or should I expect that I'm going to be hearing it tonight regardless?

My guess is you have it memorized without even looking.

That Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz song was produced by Wyclef and it sucks every form of testicle. But Lord Tarik was a member of the most underrated hip-hop group of all-time - Money Boss Players. They were like Onyx, Das Efx, Mobb Deep and the Alkoholiks all wrapped into one. Only better.

Don't believe me?

Believe you?

I don't even understand what you're saying.

The fucking Lox were the worst. I think this was the year that rap went right down the shitter.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly when that happened. Or if it happened. Commercial, mainstream rap was always pretty horrible - with several memorable exceptions. The underground has kept on winning every year though. If the handful of decent artists that still get radio play (The Roots, Mos Def, Common, Oukast, Jay-Z, Nas) weren't doing it for you once sampling costs went from the sublime to the ridiculous, you could point to that era as the nadir. But I had Big Pun's Capital Punishment Pete Rock's Soul Survivor and Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill on HEAVY rotation that whole summer. That's just to name a couple standouts. If you want to shit down the neck of commercial hip-hop, I'll hit you with a hand towel and a spritz of cologne when you come out of the stall - feel free to grab a mint or a stick of gum too. But Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Killah Priest and Sunz of Man were just getting started in '98.

Case in point. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mos_Def_%26_Talib_Kweli_Are_Black_Star)

And I've always hated The Lox save for Jadakiss' verse on Ghostface Killah's "Run." Other than that those losers can go suck a dick and die.

Yes, I meant commercial, mainstream hip hop.
