Anyway. What do you guys think about Jim Deshaies so far?
Vanilla has never been my favorite flavor. I don't have a problem with DeShaies so far. I get the impression that he's easing himself into the role - which Borb did too, if you remember. DeShaies seems to know his onions and isn't grating on me. You can call it vanilla if you like but if the alternative is somebody like Chip fucking Caray, give me vanilla every time. I think he will be fine. Endorsed. Seconded. I don't need gregariousness. Gregarious leads you down a path that eventually leads to Glenn Kozlowski. I think Deshaies is not only solid, but as he continues to ease into it, that we'll see a pretty good sense of humor. There're hints of it now. Give it some time. We need to look at him the same way we look at the players on the roster. Can he help me watch the Cubs win games in 2014-15? If not, good bye. If you're watching games right now and not overly thrilled with him, I would ask why you're doing that. Stop that.

Considering the title of this thread, I think we can call this season a success.
It may have been fun (at times) but it was very unproductive. I think that Rose's absence for the entire season means that they accomplished very little in terms of building their team toward a championship. You still don't know what he's going to be and you're further from title contention than you were when he went down. Deng and Noah ran their odometers up and there is no lottery pick eminent. Yes, Jimmy Butler has emerged as a serviceable NBA two-guard. Boozer can finally be amnesty'd. I think they have some other contracts coming off as well and we'll just have to see what pieces they can sign to surround something resembling Derrick Rose next year. It's a clusterfuck. You have a coach though. You really know nothing about basketball, right? It's really eminent how little basketball knowledge he has. It's imminent, innit?

"...but you still want to get a guy who's committed and is going to conduct himself appropriately. As far as we're concerned, that was satisfied." What could go wrong? Nothing really. Philadelphia has the most forgiving fans in baseball. They'll understand if he struggles, especially at home. I really don't see a downside to this. I hope he gets all HGH'd out and pitches them into the playoffs. Fuck it. I hope they win it.

Just heard some of the dumbest baseball talk I've listened to in a while. After the Padres game on AM 1090 they were talking about Yasmani Grandal coming back after his suspension. The guys concluded they didn't want the team to activate Grandal and "disrupt this 25-man family" (the Padres are 18-21) because backup catcher John Baker "adds a lot of value" (he's hitting .115/.233/.115) with his ability to "lead younger guys" and "heal guys like he has a red cross on his shoulder." DFA his shitty ass and make him a trainer then. The geniuses went on to decide that once the team eventually activates Grandal, they should invent an injury for Baker and stash him on the 15 day disabled list. What happens after those 15 days was not addressed. I'm assuming the 29 other teams would jump at the chance to claim a .115 hitting catcher/trainer/nurse, so passing him to Triple-A through waivers isn't an option.
Anyway. What do you guys think about Jim Deshaies so far?
Nick Hundley was vocally butthurt about the prospect of losing his starting gig to a "guy who had a couple good months on steroids." Nice fucking family.

Can we start turning this thread into a keeper thread? Like what of Travis Wood, the inspiration of the original "EPSTINK" missive? He's a part of the new tradition right? Or is he trade fodder? Yes AND yes?
26 years old, making just over $500K this year. Under team control (arbitration eligible) through the 2016 season. I'd say it's okay to go buy a Wood shirsey. Or just turn your old 34 into a 30. Or a 37, if you want his number on it. Intrepid Reader: Dante HicksI'M 37????? Intrepid Reader: Michael PalinI'm 37! I'm not old!

I don't understand these PenPho Foetoshops at all.
You are vastly overrating my Photoshop skills. I think the crux is that Travis Wood changed his number. Personally, I'm keeping the #30 throwback. I'm keeping my Kevin Foster #31.

Um... She'll still have bigger boobs than Gwyneth Paltrow, but wow. Edit: MUCH bigger. I missed the part where she got implants. Christina Applegate had this same thing done, for the same reasons, some years ago now. She actually had CANCER. Jolie was very likely to get it but hadn't yet. I had my butt removed and replaced for the same reason many moons ago.
