DPD. I hope you have a chance to read this. Sad story, but he might just be getting it together. I doubt it. I am very pessimistic about cases like his. The only thing that works is being on the right medicaition and staying on it. That may be antithetical for a professional athlete. Reading the fan comments was very entertaining. They seem to feel that rehabilitation is the primary object of a baseball team. All this time I thought it was about entertainment. (Except for the kind that Milton provided)

The Griffey White Sox jersey proves this guy's life is full of poor decisions.
- The guy in the Griffey jersey landed some really good punches on Hurley.
- Nice security response.
- The vendor's reaction was awesome when he sneaked away.
Hey! No pushing. If I run out of Red Ropes , I can get more!

As cool as NPH can be, the fact that he couldn't make this show awesome, even by singing Aerosmith, means whatever oddball appeal this show once had is now gone.
Probably one more year of gimmick shows & casting, then fin.
Mrs. Cubbieblue reads the entertainment magazines while standing in the checkout line. She tells me that this show is very popular with performers (or their agents) and it has become the show biz equivalent of product placement. So if you don't like the product that week better avoid the show. However, a couple of weeks ago one of the characters did a version of "The Lady Is A Tramp" that started out Frank Sinatra and morphed into Sammy Davis Jr. I found it very entertaining.

So then was the Government overstepping its authority by violating the 10th Amendment in emancipating slaves?
The power to emancipate the slaves was delegated to the United States by the Constitution via the 13th Amendment. I am certain that the Libertarians of the 19th century argued, just as Mr. Paul argues today, that they abhor slavery, but that the Government should not step in to prevent private ownership of human beings.

Another lefty hit job on libertarianism: So is Rand Paul a racist? No, and it's irritating to watch his out-of-context quotes -- this and a comment about how golf was no longer for elitists because Tiger Woods plays golf -- splashed on the Web to make that point. Paul believes, as many conservatives believe, that the government should ban bias in all of its institutions but cannot intervene in the policies of private businesses. Those businesses, as Paul argues, take a risk by maintaining, in this example, racist policies. Patrons can decide whether or not to give them their money, or whether or not to make a fuss about their policies. That, not government regulation and intervention, is how bias should be eliminated in the private sector. And in this belief Paul is joined by some conservatives who resent that liberals seek government intervention for every unequal outcome. But Paul never settles down and to make the argument. Rachel Maddow repeatedly raises lunch counters, and it would have really pleased me if Paul had just made the case for private sector discrimination. Frankly, I can see the outlines of the argument and am not totally unsympathetic to it. Indeed, I think there's a beautiful justice that's visited upon the random politician who, to this very day, is routinely exposed as belonging to a white country club. There's a kind of social sanction in that embarrassment that I don't think the law can bring. (That said, I trust the people who were actually there more than my own abstract theorizing.)
But what about red-lining? Does Paul know anything about blockbusting? Does he think banks should be able to have a policy of not lending to black businesses? Does he think real-estate agents should be able to discriminate? Does he think private homeowner groups should be able to band together and keep out blacks? Jews? Gays? Latinos? I kept waiting for Maddow to say."OK these guys are sitting at a lunch counter that won't serve them. The owner calls the police to remove them. Should the police arrest them or refuse to intervene in a private dispute over private racism?"

Trader Joe's saves costs by packaging the food themselves with their own labels, is that how they are cheaper?

I find this strangely intriguing. HELLCATS is a coming-of-age drama about a you pre-law student (Aly Michalka, "Bandslam") whose world is turned upside-down when she loses her scholarship and has to join the college’s competitive cheerleading squad. This fun, energetic series is a behind-the-scenes look at the drama, politics and pressure surrounding the high school football program at a Southern university. [tee up]I'm intrigued by any university with a high school football program.[/tee up] Some of those high school kids can be pretty ferocious.

"We are fighting for our children's education and our nation's future," Dunbar said. "In Texas we have certain statutory obligations to promote patriotism and to promote the free enterprise system. There seems to have been a move away from a patriotic ideology. There seems to be a denial that this was a nation founded under God. We had to go back and make some corrections." Unless the Guardian is somehow quoting out of context, someone needs to point a cannon at this woman and light the fucking fuse. Seriously, I don't know how any right-minded libertarian/conservative here would not be alarmed by the propulsion of this particular agenda unless (s)he is so fucking scared/insecure and blinded by their own ideology that (s)he would be willing to turn a blind eye to this shit that, in a normal society, wouldn't even be taken seriously. I have no tolerance for this unique brand of willful ignorance. Fuck this bitch and all who follow her. I don't think being conservative or Republican has anything to do with this brand of insanity. I don't even think MikeC would approve of this. No, this is fundamentalist Christians at their worst, and the actual conservatives in Texas are too scared to stop them because of the votes they'll lose. These people aren't conservative in any kind of ideological way, they're bat-shit crazy reactionaries. Revising history is the antithesis of what an actual conservative stands for. If you truly believe that it's necessary to understand the lessons of the past in order to move forward, as I, and most actual conservatives do, you'd agree that this is an incredibly dangerous abuse of political power. This shit has to be stopped at all costs. Good luck with that. They've got Chuck Norris. Big deal. Al Franken was a wrestler in college!

Season savior alert!
"Diamondbacks released RHP Bob Howry.
Not a great showing from the right-handed setup man in Arizona. Howry inked a one-year, $2 million contract this offseason -- and will probably get to keep all of it -- but allowed a ridiculous 17 earned runs in 20 1/3 innings for the Diamondbacks this season. He packed his things Monday. Still, we'd bet that his 1.15 WHIP from last year will land him a shot elsewhere. "
Honestly, Bob Howry and/or Chad Go-Dan (DFA'd by the A's yesterday) would make the Cubs better, even if they continue to pitch the way they have this season. And that is a sobering thought. That is the exact opposite of a sobering thought. That makes me want to drink until I crank out the Cyndi Lauper. Well, the sobriety is the inciting incident for the drunkenness. Also...so you want to drink 2 My Tais? It was five shots of Jameson and three shots of....well, whatever it was, it was red. Grenadine? The blood of Kevin Hart's cutter's victims? Cherry jello shots? Beet juice and goldschlagger shots? Clamato and peach schnapps shots? Red Headed Sluts. I bet that her hair color isn't real.

The last episode made me think of Tommy Gardner. Tommy was in his middle teens when my family moved into his neighborhood on the North side. We were the only Jewish family on the block. Whenever he saw me he and his friends would chase me, knock me to the ground and call me a dirty Jew. I was five years old. This went on for two years until Tommy got drafted. I wasn't sorry to see him go. Things improved after Tommy and his friends left. I even got along well with his sister, who was about my age. Then the war ended. The first time I saw Tommy after the war I was around ten. I expected the worst. He was with his sister and she, showing off for Tommy, called me a dirty Jew. Tommy grabbed her by the shoulders, spun her around and poked his finger in her face. "Don't you ever say anything like that to anyone ever again." Even at that age I think I knew what Tommy had seen during the war.

The final episode concluded with a couple of sentences about the post war histories of some of the main characters whom we had been watching. There were some surprises. The main surprise for me was that Sledge not only did not eat his revolver but apparently went on to a distinguished normal life. Second surprise for me was that Snafu (from his photgraph) appeared to be a light skinned African-American. Third surprise for me was that Snafu didn't end up in prison or a mental institution. It was a very touching scene when Snafu got off the train and decided to not wake Sledge to say goodbye. He simply got off the train, and melted into the crowd.

This isn't a new place by any means but I just realized it's probably cheaper than Jewel. They don't have the brand name shit but most of the stuff is pretty good.
These verde chicken burritos are fucking awesome.
What are some of the specialty foods that I need to try? There are too many to choose from and every time I'm there I only ending up choosing one pretty awesome looking thing.
At the risk of revealing more than anyone wants to know, I am lactose intolerant. I can't express the joy I experienced when I discovered Mintz' Blintzes in the freezer section of Trader Joe. They are dairy free (tofu). They are sensational! Brown them in a little butter, or if you prefer, Promise. I like them with orange martmalade.
