If it wasn't for that freak show in Washington...Colvin would be right there with Garcia, Heyward, Leake, Davis, and Castro in the ROY mix.
I don't understand how people can have anything other than stiff erection for Colvin. I guess it's possible that the light went on for Colvin once he got to Tennessee last year for his second go-round in AA. Since then he's put up some really solid numbers in both the minors and majors and I'm definitely excited about that. But if he's going to be a corner outfielder, I'm wary of his minor league track record of not getting on base and not hitting for as much power as he has the last few months.You sound kind of asshurt. I'm kind of pissed they didn't sweep the Tards and I'm taking it out on Colvin. Why couldn't that gutless slapdick hit another leadoff dong last night? Fuck this, I've got your back RV. He couldn't be a more ideal leadoff man if he was wearing batting gloves made out of Brett Butler's foreskin. I submit that a team with Tyler Colvin leading off or hitting 5th is not going to be very good. A team with him hitting 6th or 7th could be. Now that's a leadoff man. Too bad Martin Borg is going to be our centerfielder for the next two years. Or is it? I don't know. The outfield logjammin will clear up when Albatrossiano moves back to second. to first. Hack Jew and D-Parted-Lee'd. The thought of Soriano at first just emptied my bowels all over my desk chair. Why? You afraid he can't catch a ball thrown to him? Your lack of respect for the 1st baseman position is appalling. If Leon Durham can do it, so can Soriano. It's nice to have someone like DLee or Keith Hernandez or Mark Grace. But to put any more defensive importance on it than just to have a hitter there because he needs to play a defensive position is a waste of a resource. I mean, Cecil fucking Fielder played 1B. Leon Durham was a damn good first baseman you fucking asshole. Guy makes one ill-timed error and all of a sudden he's stone-hands. How dare you, Oleg. |

yep Let's say, for the sake of argument, I were tempted to say yes. There are these nagging details. You might consider this kind of stodgy and uptight of me, but I generally won't arrange to meet people in person about whom I don't have some minor details, like, you know, their name, general age range, criminal history. That kind of thing. It just seems prudent. Also, when asking someone out, if the intent is to actually go out, and not to entertain a messageboard, you might want to send a private message. Just a little insight into (not to stereotype) the female mind. Was TDubbs not at the Shitty's get-together when you were there? I think it was the one with the weird Matt Murton fan-chick getting all dreamy eyed over Apex. Dubbs was not there. Ned Ryerson was. When I met him, I asked if he was "TDubbs" (same initials, before he said who he was). Much cooler than TDubbs, that Tommy is. |

I'm betting they'll give Anderson another chance to be the guy, but what'll most likely happen will be Idonijie at end in most situations, with Anderson taking over and Idonijie sliding inside on passing downs. I think a pure pass rush of Anderson, Idonijie, Harris, and Peppers will be terrifying, but they'll have to improve against the run on 1st and 2nd down to actually ensure that opposing offenses are actually forced into passing situations with regularity. This weekend was some of that "good baseball" I've been calling for to keep me engaged. You know, throwing dudes out on the bases, hitting an assload of home runs, beating the Tards, the kids looking good, the pen stepping up - that sort of thing. Yay.
Schlitter's rookie mistake (and Theriot/Fukudome's gross incomptence) notwithstanding, that was the most entertaining series of Cub baseball I've watched since September 2008. Castro, Colvin and Casher are going to be good. Rammy, Soriano and Soto can still play. Theriot and Lee are going to be Ghandi. This is looking good for 2011 and beyond. I'm on the Big Blue Train, female dogs. It's undergoing maintenance of every kind and won't be leaving the station for quite some time. But I've got some beer in a cooler and a couple of good books to read. And I've got porn.

But if MLB is going back to the 1980s where speed and defense matter and 35 dongs is a whole shitload, the guy is more valuable than Slaky thinks. A fair point. Colvin's going to need to slug at least .500 to be a valuable major leaguer even if we're back at 80s production levels, considering his OBP is probably never going to get past .320 or so. If he can do that I'll jump right aboard your sploogewagon. He's slugging .504 for his first 260 PAs. If you don't think he cans ustain that well...FUCK YOU!!! The whole cans? |

Sad for the Cowhers and the Steelers family and also sad because I totally had inside info on this (one of my friends teaches at the high school in Raleigh where the kids went) and was told that she was going to make it to 2011, when I was going to get mad points for picking it. Anyone try Burt's Place in Morton Grove?
No, afraid not. Really good pizza. Strange place. It's located on Ferris, just north of Lincoln, a short walk from the Metra station. The place is a little quirky. Only open Wednesday through Saturday. You need to call ahead for your pizza or a table, if you're eating in. Like several hours ahead or days in advance. Once they have all the orders they care to take, they stop answering the phone. If you don't call ahead, they won't seat you. If you know this in advance, it's worth it. He does a thinner-than-average deep dish and a thicker than average thin crust. Both are excellent. Worth a try. I have a couple friends that were just telling me about this place. They said some family came in trying to get seated and they were told to take a hike. They couldn't remember the name of the place...just that it was in Morton Grove. Thanks, Teej. I gotta hit this place up soon. |

That guy from whom Yellon lifted the "Cubs by Numbers" idea will probably be surprised to hear this. Also, I work with a Casey who's a girl. Full name is Cassandra. My wife's boss--allso female--is Casey as well. It still strikes me, initially, as a boy's name. |
