The feud dragged on until a truce was called so that all the members of the major Cubs' messageboards could attend a ceremony to give Eric Patterson an award for achievement in the field of minor league excellence.

And $100!

"Congrats, Eric!"

Quote
Strong consideration was given to Matt Murton, who edged out Patterson in the user vote. However, the NSBB minor league writers for the site were unanimous in nominating Patterson for their 50% of the vote, giving him the overall edge in the award. Others receiving support included Brandon Sing, Sean Gallagher, Ronny Cedeno, Ricky Nolasco and others.

TJ Brown had to call Andy at work to remove it. And we were all like, "You have Andy Dolan's phone number?!"

TJ Brown is a pretty big wheel down at the cracker factory.

TRENTON, N.J. - May 23, 2013 (WPVI) -- At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water - and apparently not even clean water at that.

State officials provided those new details Thursday on raids they conducted a day earlier as part of a yearlong investigation dubbed Operation Swill.

Twenty-nine New Jersey bars and restaurants, including 13 TGI Fridays, were accused of substituting cheap booze - or worse - for the good stuff while charging premium prices.

It looks like the Cubs won't be able to draft the guy the Astros draft.

What's clear is that Appel, Gray and Bryant will all be available when Houston picks. And, should Houston choose one of those three, only two of them will then be available for the Cubs.

That's where things get a bit more complicated...

If the Astros pick Appel first, of the three mentioned above only Gray and Bryant will remain for the Cubs to pick from.

If, on the other hand, Houston goes with Gray, only Appel and Bryant will be left.

It's also possible, however, (though the consensus seems to be that it's probably less likely) that the Astros will go with Bryant with their pick, or even someone else entirely.

In that case, the Cubs would most likely be picking between Appel and Gray (and possibly Bryant, if the Astros didn't pick him).

Should I be worried about him?

Depends on what your initial expectations were.

I think that's the problem. My expectations for Starlin were too high - something like an extended prime where he was a top 3 shortstop every year. At this point a top 10 SS is probably more realistic and probably not worth having a sad over.

You were the one who told us he was the next Garry Templeton, so I don't know why you expected Barry Larkin.

As it is, he's the best all-around SS the Cubs have had since Banks.

I don't think comparing him against decades of shitty players is really the right lens here.

the lens is that he's the best Cubs SS of any of our (except Stew's) lifetime. Why worry about Castro?

I think it's because we are hoping he's going to be a great shortstop, not a great Cubs shortstop, which are two very different things, as you've pointed out.

He's stil only 23. His career path is far from being determined. That includes whether or not he'll even be a shortstop once Baez is ready...Baez might wind up being even better than Castro.

We'll have to see how it plays out.

Probably Appel.
Maybe Gray.

Definitely Appel or Gray.

Except maybe Bryant.
Could be Bryant.

But definitely Appel.

It's looking more like whichever of Appel or Gray the Astros don't take.

Unless it's Bryant.

Or unless the Astros take Bryant.

Let's see how it plays out.

If the Astros didn't take either Appel or Gray, it's because they took Stewart.

Ok... So we've whittled it down to Appel or Gray, possibly Bryant.

Saw this last night at Century. Great movie. If you like explorers or just adventure stuff this is well worth the two hours.

True story of Thor Heyerdahl and his raft journey from Peru to the Polynesian islands.

He was better in The Avengers.

HOLY SHIT NO, CHUCK.

Rotoworld's mock draft today has the Bulls taking Senegal-born Louisville center Gorgui Dieng at the 20th pick.

Initial Scouting Report:

Quote
According to ESPN's Chad Ford, "just about everyone" sees Louisville C Gorgui Dieng as an immediate NBA contributor. Dieng is not going to be an NBA star thanks to his offensive limitations. But he is going to continue to rise on draft boards thanks to his 6'11/235 frame and unique passing skills. Dieng averaged 9.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 assists during Louisville's championship season.

The Bulls are set at most positions, especially after the strong play of wingman Jimmy Butler this season. But they could use some depth in the paint and Dieng might end up being a nice insurance policy for Joakim Noah’s chronically bad feet. Dieng’s stock rose during the NCAA Tournament and he should be a very good NBA defender, which will make him a hit with Tom Thibodeau. And his offensive skills have potential given his ability to knock down the mid-range jumper, and he looks like a nice fit in Chicago.

SBNation (whatever that is) has a mock up that shows the predictions of a number of different sites.

One guy is picking (Tonker-head-explode-Alert) Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to the Bulls, who some have as high as 10, but Dieng was the only guy that more than one site picked.

Dieng? Deng?
DANG, y'all.

What is SBNation? I'm so cool I have literally never heard of it.

White people, amiright?

This movie kicked all kinds of ass.  Best sci-fi movie I've seen since Serenity.

That. What a fun movie.

I know I'm going to regret this more than Weebs' parents regret finishing their basement...but what are the plot holes Chuck was Chucking about?

How about the entire setup with the Supernova for starters?

Go on...

Especially once there's enough other guys around him to the point where he knows the offense doesn't have to fall to him or Rozzi every day.

Yeah, that's not a real thing.

When's Rozzi going to start hitting?

Hopefully after Slorer, Beza, Amlaro, Vobelgach and other reinforcements get here.

Many Szczvs and Vuuttrs knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slorer that day, I can tell you!

Was just told that Montador would be an upgrade for game 4 over the expendable Rozsival.

Zuh?

Don't you guys get it? Rozsival is SLOW.
