"...but you still want to get a guy who's committed and is going to conduct himself appropriately. As far as we're concerned, that was satisfied." What could go wrong? Nothing really. Philadelphia has the most forgiving fans in baseball. They'll understand if he struggles, especially at home. I really don't see a downside to this. I hope he gets all HGH'd out and pitches them into the playoffs. Fuck it. I hope they win it. Me too. I love Big Z. Yes. You are all morons. My fantasy involves Big Z getting the final out to record the Save in the World Series clinching game.

Anyway. What do you guys think about Jim Deshaies so far?
Vanilla has never been my favorite flavor. I don't have a problem with DeShaies so far. I get the impression that he's easing himself into the role - which Borb did too, if you remember. DeShaies seems to know his onions and isn't grating on me. You can call it vanilla if you like but if the alternative is somebody like Chip fucking Caray, give me vanilla every time. I think he will be fine. Endorsed. Seconded. I don't need gregariousness. Gregarious leads you down a path that eventually leads to Glenn Kozlowski. I think Deshaies is not only solid, but as he continues to ease into it, that we'll see a pretty good sense of humor. There're hints of it now. Give it some time.

I know it doesn't matter at all but the Cubs are only one game behind Milwaukee and the White Sox record-wise. If they were to finish ahead of either I'd laugh.
Since the Cubs are going to suck anyway, I'd rather they suck spectacularly and get better draft picks for next season. We'll have plenty of time for guffaws in a couple years. No way. That's what last year was about. While I've not harbored any hope of them actually competing this year, I really don't care to see a repeat of the '12 shitshow. I'd like to see some sort of incremental progress. For what? When the Cubs become good, there are two position players and a pitcher or two who will be a part of it. This is a long-term project, and it's still in the talent acquisition and development stage. I'd rather they nab another top 10 stud next year than some second-tier guy, since the stated goal is sustained success. I don't think the difference between a Top 10 pick and, say, a #15 pick is going to make a difference; at least it shouldn't. If it does, then I'm concerned about the Epstink regime (odds are, they'll still get a Top 10 pick this year even if they play as suckily as you hope). Off the top of my head, Patterson, Montanez and Harvey (L-R), were all Top 10 picks during the MacPhail era, if not Top 5. They hired the current regime so they wouldn't have to rely on their suckiness backing lucking them into competitiveness. They're already going to benefit this year; I don't think the absence of a Top 6 pick for next year is going to break this franchise. They ought to be fine picking 10th or whatever.

I'm already laughing at the Sox. Cub fans had no expectations for 2013. Sox fans, however, were hoping they would have the stamina to not fade like they did last year after a surprisingly strong start. Instead it looks like the wheels are coming their turdwagon pretty early. BWAHAHAHAHA.

... I hadn't the slightest notion that Tennessee Williams was gay.
GTFO, Wheezer. I knew he was gay before I knew ANYTHING else about him. Like, what he actually did for a living. Yeah, I first heard about him when I was in 5th grade and he died from choking on a pen cap--which gave my teacher an opportunity to present it as a cautionary tale for those of us who chewed on our pens and pencaps. His gayness was openly discussed in the remberances of him, making him one of the first people about whom I learned was gay--long before I read or saw any of his plays. That's quite a BC-sized blind spot that Wheezer inexplicably had. The whole remberances? Damn you, Shooter. I actually spotted that earlier and thought it might escape unnoticed.
