What's with this idea that caring about Kerry Wood's retirement is illogical and sappy? Isn't the whole of sports fandom totally illogical?

He had time for his close circle, for sure. We both shared a friendship with a journalist named George Castle, who was a true underdog in the industry. From day one until his retirement, Kerry had time for George, someone who had been covering him from when he first started his career.

In Art's defense, I think most of us that post here agree that a it's annoying when a large section of the fan base praise failure and embrace the lovable loser attitude. And there was a lot of failure and disappointment in Kerry Wood's career. So I get where he's coming from. What I don't get is why Art seems so angry, and why that anger is directed at Kerry and his fans.

Part of the reason I'm sad about  his retirement is having to acknowledge that his promise will never be fulfilled, and that the Cubs will not win a World Series with him on the team. We're not overrating Kerry, we're sad that we have to rate him properly.
