I can't believe how many "Congrats on a standing ovation and a curtain call in a meaningless game for an average player" tweets/posts/etc. I had to read today. Then I realized that there are a lot of cunts in the world.

This.

I let myself get engaged in a stupid pissing match with Tony's Facebook friend Art Thompson, whose dog was shot or wife was fucked by Kerry Wood, apparently.

I feel bad. Should have let it go.

I managed to let it go but Eli had a couple of really good thoughts on the subject.

What's with this idea that caring about Kerry Wood's retirement is illogical and sappy? Isn't the whole of sports fandom totally illogical?

Was Kevin Orie the first to be FIREBARNED in Desipio history? A fine tradition indeed.

That's quite nice.

This jumped out at me, though...

He had time for his close circle, for sure. We both shared a friendship with a journalist named George Castle, who was a true underdog in the industry. From day one until his retirement, Kerry had time for George, someone who had been covering him from when he first started his career.

In Art's defense, I think most of us that post here agree that a it's annoying when a large section of the fan base praise failure and embrace the lovable loser attitude. And there was a lot of failure and disappointment in Kerry Wood's career. So I get where he's coming from. What I don't get is why Art seems so angry, and why that anger is directed at Kerry and his fans.

Part of the reason I'm sad about  his retirement is having to acknowledge that his promise will never be fulfilled, and that the Cubs will not win a World Series with him on the team. We're not overrating Kerry, we're sad that we have to rate him properly.

Via the Score: Nathan Enderle.

This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.

Via the Score: Nathan Enderle.

If only the Bears hadn't spent two late round picks on Dan Lefevour and Nathan Enderle in the Martz Era. They could be cutting two no-named tackles or defensive backs from FCS schools somewhere in Texas or Louisiana instead. Angelstink was terrible.
