So, for the best bang for my buck, am I looking in the right place? Wrong place?
If bang-for-your-buck is your criterion, you're looking in the wrong place.
I am looking bang for the buck, but I suppose at the same time, I can't get too much cheaper than that without being in a complete shithole (although there is no guarantee the one I mentioned isn't a shithole)
My point was just that Lincoln Park isn't exactly the first place to go looking for a bargain.
Typically the "bargain" places in good neighborhoods aren't really in those good neighborhoods.
Online, craigslists posting in "Wicker park" or "Bucktown" end up near humboldt park.
Oh, and if you have a car, I'd be looking for a place with a parking spot.

Well, I was looking on where to go (even though the majority of my searching I keep going to north of the loop) but I was hoping to get a suggestion on a site or two. I love that Padmapper site.

Areas worth checking out:
- lincoln park
- wrigleyville
- River North
- River West
- Wicker Park
- Bucktown
- Ukrainian Village/West Town
- Roscoe Village
- Pilsen - probably a bit too fringe for a common yeti

Before we start suggesting places for Yeti to live, maybe he should mention where he'd be working/commuting to?
Would you be in the Thompson Center?

Yes, and my plan was public transport. I'm an idiot but I'm not dumb enough to think I'll drive to work every day. And not to sound like a common Huey, but I don't mind if the el isn't right around the corner. If I have to walk a bit, I'll survive

Fortunately, all L lines lead to the Loop (well, not the Yellow Line, but then you've never been properly bar mitzvahed), so you wouldn't
have to
live the life of a poor untransitted Huey.
In addition to the neighborhoods Brolumbus mentioned above also check out:
On the Red Line:
Uptown and Edgewater. Move to Buena Park (Uptown) to get gay with Jon and Apex on the regular.
On the Brown Line:
Lincoln Square/North Center and even Albany Park. In North Center you'd be close enough to RV to still never meet him in person.
On the Blue Line:
Logan Square. The new hotness. Where all the hipsters getting priced out of Wicker Park, Bucktown and Ukrainian Village are winding up.
Need still more bang for you buck? Bridgeport it is! And all the better to root for your beloved White Sox.

Not too mainstream enough. Selling out is the new artist's loft.
