Any of you cool people get with the times and try a standing desk? Opinions, if so? I'll welcome opinions of those who haven't tried them as well

Half my office uses one.

I don't, because I'm lazy.

What I gather from people who use them - they seem to use them a lot in the morning and then as the day passes, they convert them back to sitting desks.
But, as long as you have that option, they seem pretty positive about them for 4 hours/day or so.

I'm in a cube, which means I couldn't easily convert from one to the other. It could maybe be done, but it would be tough. That's my worry: I wouldn't want to just go from sitting my fat ass in a chair then to 9 hours a day standing

Yeah, you'll definitely want one that can convert between the two modes. If you go directly from sitting 9 hours a day right to standing 9 hours a day, you're going to have a really bad time.

I built a standing desk in to my home office, but have a drafting stool I sit on when I need to give my legs a rest.

I converted the full cubicle to a standing desk, and I'm looking at the route of a drafting stool. Best part of this project is that it didn't cost $600 for the desk like the 6 that our director's office purchased in the last year. Most of those are people new to the state and will be gone within 4 year because that's the nature of their jobs. So, fuck the notion that state workers are wasteful.

PICS

But, of course

Nice that you could time-share your cubicle with Oleg, Shorty.

Seriously - this is PRE-standing desk, correct?

If Yeti "building a standing desk" literally consisted of him removing a chair and calling it a day I will laugh forever.

What would you expect from a guy who has a calculator sitting next to a computer?

Accountants don't do that?

The desk was raised about 18 inches.

Why have a calculator to compute numbers when you have a device with "compute" right in the name? I could see having one if you're somewhere where a computer isn't accessible, but anything a calculator can do a computer can do better.

Must be the angle of the shot, because it's 4' from the ground

Selfie or it didn't happen

Can someone Photoshop SweaterYeti and Gnoleg under that desk?

Morph doesn't work here anymore.
I can't believe I even know these people. I'm ashamed of my internet life.

I was given a choice a work on a new laptop, and as this is not my area of expertise, wondering if anyone had thoughts or pointers.

Choice 1: Dell E7270
Choice 2: Microsoft Surface Pro 4

From what I can tell, the benefits to the Dell are that it's a little more powerful, has more USB ports and has a keyboard that I know I'll like.
The Surface has better screen resolution, is lighter and has touchscreen (if that's a real benefit, not sure.)

I've never owned a iPad, so the touchscreen/tablet factor is kind of cool for me, but not sure it's worth any potential downgrade in performance.

For reference, I dock when I'm in the office, so things like screen resolution (and keyboard and USB ports) aren't really a factor most of the time.

I don't travel much for work (5-10 days/year) so portability isn't a huge issue, though I do work from home quite a bit and will be using whichever machine undocked, so there's that.

If anyone has thoughts for which machine would be better for using Yeti's MLB access on, I'd be interested in hearing.

I'd rather have the Surface Pro 4, since it's like 5% cooler and something different, but just want to make sure I won't regret it greatly.

I didn't realize there were agencies that used PCs.

Regarding your question, go with the Surface Pro. Partially because it's cooler. But mostly because people seem to really like it and unless you're doing something like intensive video editing while streaming MLB.TV from Yeti's account, the performance should be plenty good enough.

Creative, production and innovation are all Mac. Research, Strategy and Account are all PCs. This is not uncommon based on my experience (though I have been on Mac before.). Since most of our clients are on PC, they generally have client-facing people use the same so translation is easier.

I know we have several alleged lawyers here -- any non-advice on what to look for when creating a will? We've gotten quotes that range from like $400 to $3,000 (which seems insane, though maybe this is a reasonable get-what-you-pay-for thing) and there are terms thrown around that I have little understanding of like various types of trusts and directives, etc. We just want our bases covered, but since I don't even know what those are, I can't really ask for them. Any tips?
