Joe Morgan, in Sunday night's Mets-Cards opener, seemed eager to remind us that calmly stated, avuncular nonsense is still nonsense. Of Joe Smith, the Mets' 23-year-old reliever who was born and raised in Cincinnati, Morgan said, "He told me he grew up watching The Big Red Machine." If that was the case, Morgan should have straightened the kid out. The Big Red Machine, teams on which Morgan starred, played from 1972 through 1976. Smith was born in 1984.

At least credit Mushnick if you're going to directly quote him.  I love that guy.

And you're just a dope on a messageboard.  Still, though, propers should always be given.  Otherwise, we're no better than the guys like Tony Casiliias who rip things off uncredited from blogs.  When we do the same thing, the terroists have won.

Sorry,  Eric Casiliias.

And that's not even the right guy anyway.  I must have confused with Colin Cowherd.

Apparently.  His listeners brought down the Big Lead.  Or something.  That sucks, too, because I liked that one.  Why didn't he go after Deadspin?  Because he's a tool, obviously.

I'd like to start a campaign where we get all the sports blog readers to call into his show, and when we get on the air...don't...say...one...word.

That might be even better than my idea, which was to say only one word: fuck.
