When the owner of a franchise issues "full support" of a GM or manager, doesn't that usually serve as the prelude to a firing?
No, the Cubs always badmouth people before getting rid of them.

You're right, although that was the old ownership.  Also, fuck.

That's another headline that doesn't match the words at the press conference.

"Jim is our general manager full stock," Ricketts said. "He will be leading the effort to find our new manager for next year here and will be our general manager going into next year."

"I think the second thing that gives me 100 percent confidence in Jim is that we have a good organization. The way you win consistently in baseball is to draft well, to develop players well and to bring those players up to the major leagues to give you the flexibility you need with payroll and trades. I think we have the organization in place. I have the highest confidence in everyone in our organization, and I think that speaks well of Jim."

Nomar was a gamble. A good gamble. In hindsight, however, wouldn't Orlando Cabrera have been a better choice, Jim?

Trying to interpret a Chuck post is always dangerous, but I was thought he was implying it was a bad trade.  Which it wasn't, since the Cubs gave up junk and Nomar played reasonably well once he was acquired.

1. Fire Hendry and Ricketts to let everyone know it's a full housecleaning.

Fire himself?  Why, that's just bold and crazy enough to work!

Jesus, Ricketts is such a chucklehead that I'm confusing him with Crane Thierry of Smarmativity.

5. Go to the press conference, and say they'll both be here next year (no matter what Yeti says, they'll be back. Sorry tubs but I'll take Bruce Miles' analysis over yours)

Give me the exact quote that says he'll be back. Please do this. Seriously.

The ambiguity shows me that he won't be back. If he was going to be back, he'd say, "Jim will be our GM in 2011." He didn't. Instead he was ambiguous, which would have to tell me that it's the opposite of what he said. I'm not really sure what is so hard to understand about that. Bruce's words seem to indicate that he was speculating as opposed to basing that off of inside information that he has.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some Disney programming to get back to. I am right about this, and you rest assured that I will point right back to this when he is fired. And if for some strange reason he's the GM in 2011, feel free to point right back to this and call me a common PenFoe.

EDIT: To further do analysis of the words that Ricketts said, when he was saying the "Jim will be here going into next year...." part, he was stuttering/pausing a little but once he found the right words to say, he went right at it. He also stuttered on talking about him leading the search for the manager. If he was really sure about this stuff, I think he'd be able to say it right away.

Look, I understand the need to give Ricketts the benefit of the doubt and assume he's eventually going to do the right thing and shitcan Hendry and Kenney in October. I really do. Because if he's the moron that most of us now believe he is, we may well be in for another World Series-less ownership. And that sucks and is hard to accept. I'm just past the point of believing he knows what he's doing. I understand there's plenty of wiggle room in the "GM going into next year" horseplop. I just think, in light of the verbal HJ's Ricketts gave to Jimbo and Crane today, he really does think they're good at their jobs. Which means he's mildly retarded.

Hendry got Cabrera.  About 2 months too late.

And then he traded him for Nomar 15 seconds later.

That was what was most alarming. He explained why Hendry has his confidence, not a Lovie Smith "Rex is our quarterback," or the kiss-of-death vote of confidence "I have no plans of firing Mr. X." This was a "I'd be a fucking moron to fire Hendry and here's why."

He's hitting .352 in Japan, BEST in the league.  Time to right that wrong, Jimbo.

In a perfect world, Apex has to move to Japan and follow the Hanshin Tigers and tell anyone who'd listen how it's awesome that Bob Horner, Warren Cromartie, Tuffy Rhodes, Tom Selleck, Kosuke Fukudome, Shingo Takatsu and Sadaharu Oh all signed with the Tigers to play with Murton and win the championships that Patrick Ewing and Gene Keady never won.
