I recently saw an article calling the pepper & egg sandwich a Chicago tradition. This is untrue, since anywhere there is a good sized Catholic population (Boston, NYC, etc) you can score a pretty good one.

Which got me wondering...after Italian Beef, what is the quintessential sandwich? Does a Jim Shoe count separately from Italian beef, since there's Italian beef in a proper Jim Shoe?

Why can't I find better things to wonder about?

I assume you mean a quintessential Chicago sandwich.  If so, I give you the Mother-in-Law

I would say that the pork chop sammich is also a Chicago thing (and a very good thing indeed)

I think fried balogna is also pretty much a local thing, like the Bundy Fountain.

The gyro's American iteration is also a Chicago creation.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

And because I had one this week and CT didn't...

Yeah, but according to USA Today, the Cardinals are humble Taurus drivers who eat at Olive Garden.

Mike Shannon owns an Olive Garden?

Booooooo!  Skrine Chops is closing this week.
Apparently their rent just went up substantially.
The Park Forest location will remain open and they will deliver downtown.
So get your pork chop sandwich while the gettin's still good.

I know seating there is limited but I'd be up for it on Friday if anyone wants to meet down there.
