The plot took 3 years, and god knows how many kilos of methamphetamine, but Mark Gonzales says
Hank White is on Kenny Williams' wish list.
Backup catcher: This is one area where the Sox won't have to spend much money because of the deep stable of reserves, A.J. Pierzynski's durability and Tyler Flowers' rapid development in the minor leagues.
Free agent Henry Blanco provides an ideal fit with his ability to handle pitchers, his relationship with manager Ozzie Guillen and his longtime acceptance of a backup role. Mike Redmond also is a possibility.
Even worse,
a similar plan is being hatched in St. Louis:
HENRY BLANCO, last with San Diego. The former Chicago Cubs backup started 58 games and handled 500 innings for the Padres as their backup this past season. He’s a career .228 hitter, but he had a .292/.325/.392 turn in 2008 behind Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto. Good history of handling the running game, and he’s a career .278 hitter against Cardinals.
(I don't know if they told Post-Dispatch writer Derrick Goold that if Blanco played for the BFIBB
TM, that he wouldn't get to hit against them.)
Anyway, discuss.
