The original QuoteFAIL was mine, as I hit the button twice and quoted Huey twice, so I went to fix that by erasing one of the quotes, which apparently messed up the HTML and took away that fancy purple box. I assume Huey just quoted my QuoteFAIL. The important thing is that Atlanta is the favorite over San Francisco in the
NFC Trans Continental Division.
Hey! In fairness, in spite of the fact that they are in fact on other sides of the continent, those two teams
were
in the same division for years.
(Same goes with the Braves being in the old NL West. What the fuck was it about Atlanta that made people so geography-challenged?)
The Dallas Fucking Cowboys are still somehow in the NFC East.
Geographic divisions are far more meaningless in the NFL than in any other sport, since there's no such thing as multi-game road trips (the exception being the odd occasion when a team might play the Giants and Jets back-to-back). As such, the traditional Cowboys rivalries (Giants/Skins/Iggles) can stay intact.
The Cardinals traveled east last year to play the Skins and Jets back-to-back. Stayed the whole week on the East Coast.
Favre threw 6 TDs the 2nd game.
Just saying.

I was mainly using this divsional alignment thing as an excuse to take a shot at the Cowboys.

The Braves and Reds were stuck in the NL East because the NL didn't want to penalize charter members Chicago and St. Louis with 27 games on the left coast. (Instead, they got stuck with 18 games out there). How that meant the Reds (a charter franchise that never moved) would have to play in the West, I have no idea.
But, also remember that the Cubs sued Fay Vincent to stop him from forcing them to switch to the NL West for the 1993 season. It was curious why the Cubs went so nuclear on the issue, given the facts on the ground:
1) They were asked to move to the NL West with the Cardinals, who had gotten the hang of sucking.
2) The last 2 NL West Champions, the Braves and Reds, were being switched to the NL East.
3) The Braves had established themselves as the team to beat for years to come.
4) The Padres and Assholes were in sell-off mode.
5) The Dodgers were busy paying Darryl Strawberry a shit-ton of money and letting Tommy Lasorda nap in the dugout.
6) The Giants were on the verge of hiring Dusty F. Baker to be their manager.
7) The only other competitor in the NL West would be the expansion Colorado Rockies, complete with Don Baylor, field manager.
8) The NL was going to a balanced schedule in 1993, so each team would play every other team the same number of times, irrespective of division.
9) The three-division alignment was very much on the table and the writing was on the wall that the 2-division setup was going the way of the dinosaur.

The Ravens were somehow able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and then snatch defeat from the jaws of victory IN THE SAME GAME today against Minnesota. Ugh.

How the Fuck did Philly lose to Oakland? Holy fucking shit. Also, the Steelers had best beat the fucking Vikings in Pittsburgh next week because I can not fucking believe how those overrated bastards keep getting away with it.

Well if you'd picked the wrong team in week 2 you wouldn't have to dodge any bullets. So think about that.

This sure was a nice thread we had here, while it lasted.
Don't worry, it will breathe by the time the Giants ass-rape the Saints.

It's a good thing Desmond Clark didn't score on that catch, but opted instead to go down at the 1.
