...I am disappointed that Li'lBitch got a hit.

It was quite the quandary for me.  Had Nillibridge been up with nobody out and nobody on, there would have been no contest - I'd have been very happy to see him continue his streak.  With the bases loaded and the chance to break the game open (at least until Starlin broke it closed again) for the Cubs, though?  I admit, I was torn.

That was some Cody's softball shit there. Oh, to be a fly in Mike D.'s cubicle when that deal went down.

I stopped watching at that stage.  Call it experience, call it a premonition... I knew there was no way the Cubs were going to hang on to their lead.

Shit, perhaps it's me?  Every time I stop watching, they cough up the lead.

Sorry, chaps.  I promise to watch every inning of Cub baseball between now and the end of Game 4 of the World Series.

... I'm feeling some meatball-esque irrtation as it becomes more clear how long this rebuilding process is going to take. But hey, every chance to win is sacred and all that, right?

I just focus on other sports and let baseball take its course. If this plan doesn't work and the Cubs aren't competitive by 2015, I guess I'll just stop paying attention forever. I'm much more ok with this than I ever figured I would be.

For me there was nothing like the joy and exhilaration that I got from crossing the finish line of a challenging distance race.  Running was my church.  Shorter and Rodgers were the preachers and Cooper's "Aerobics" was the bible.  I spent 36 years running almost every day.  I ran 14 marathons and gave up that distance when I stopped setting PRs each time that I ran.  I don't run anymore.  Now I walk with a limp.  But even if I had known that was going to happen I wouldn't have done anything differently.  I still love to watch footraces.  The finish line was a place of smiles and happiness.  What a cowardly thing to do to people when they are so happy and vulnerable.

I got an email last night from one of my law partners.  He is in Boston to visit his mother.   He went to the finish line to watch the race and root for a friend.  But he and his wife felt that it was too crowded and decided to get on the subway and go to Brookline to cheer their friend on.  They did and so they weren't there when the bombs went off.  His friend finished about 10 minutes before the bomb went off.

What's your particular beef - with the moves they made (or didn't make) this offseason, or something else?
