The Russians have some hot curlers.

I'm getting a sense of that from Google right now.

Pics or it didn't happen.

Nice choice, Russia. (No, really.)

Sunday is hockey day. The final day of the round robin prelims, and the top four seeds coming out of this round get byes heading into the playoff bracket.

Seeds 1-3 go to the top team from each of the three prelim groups (ranked by points, then goal differential, then goals scored, then the countries' IIHF World Rankings).

The 4th seed is the best of the three second place teams (again, determined by points, then goal differential, then goals scored, then IIHF World Rankings).

And it's all hinging on the outcomes of three grudge matches today:

Russia and the Czechs play at 2pm
US and Canada play at 6:40pm
Sweden and Finland play at 11pm

Here are the remaining contenders for the top four spots as currently ranked...
   Team  GR   Pts  GD   GS   WR
1  FIN    1    6    9   10    4
2  USA    1    6    7    9    5
3  CZE    1    6    5    8    6
4  SWE    2    6    4    6    3
5  CAN    2    5    9   11    2
7  RUS    3    4    5    9    1
GR = Group rank
GD = Goal differential
GS = Goals scored
WR = IIHF World Ranking

(Slovakia, currently at 6th overall and 2nd in Group B, won 5 points in 3 games and are out of the running for the 4th seed.)

Obviously, with a win tonight, the US would be in the top three as the winner of Group A.

The way I'm reading this, though: even with a loss, if the they can pick up a point tonight, the only threat to their shot at a bye is a Finland overtime loss to Sweden. With a Finland win or a Sweden regulation win, the US would take the 4th seed (with 7 points and a goal differential of 6).

With a regulation loss, I think they can still snag a bye with:

1) A Sweden regulation loss OR a Finland regulation loss where the goal differential is three more than the US-Canada goal differential or greater OR a Finland regulation loss where the goal differential is two more than the US-Canada goal differential and Finland scores two goals less than the US scores

AND

2) A Russia loss OR a Czech regulation loss where the goal differential is one less than the US-Canada goal differential or greater OR a Czech regulation loss where the goal differential is two less than the US-Canada goal differential and the Czechs score no more than one more goal than the US

Got that?

That's excellent, Tank.  His nickname is apparently "Meat."  I believe that by rule that becomes TDubbs's new SBox handle.

Considering the Ducks just traded Giguere and got Toskala back in return, they've gone all-in on Hiller as their long-term solution.

So stop this right now.

so let's get Toskala.

And that means within a week, it will be Tank's new handle.
Take that, Adolf Eyechart.

USA! USA!  Up 3-2 at the end of the 2nd period.  This hockey thing is really fun to watch.
