Can someone explain to me why anyone would want the new iPad? It's just a larger iPhone, unless I'm missing something.

Is it going to be cheaper than a macbook? In that case it'd make sense as a basic home computer in place of your laptop.

Rumored to be $1k, plus the mobile rate plans. So no, it's not cheaper.

If the storage was a little bigger (between 16 and 64 GB), I could see it being a good laptop/netbook replacement.  Although if it is actually going to cost $1k, it seems like you'd be much better off just buying a MacBook.  Let's see how this plays out.

It runs wi-fi only, so it's more of a giant iPod Touch.

Screw the iPad.

I just want them to announce other US companies will be able to carry the iPhone (Verizon). And introduce an updated iPhone.

Unless it comes bundled with a subscription to the Elsevier backfile and friends, I'm wholly indifferent. Unless it's propagated on cells extracted from Steve Jobs' new liver, that is, in which case I'm indifferent but short on onions.

Pen assures me this thing is no threat to the Kindle and its undisclosed sales figures.

Because no one who'd be willing to spend $259 (or $489 for the larger Kindle DX) for a device devoted strictly to reading digital books would be willing to to spend $240 more (or $10 more, for that matter) for a much better device in a similar form factor that would, among other things, also allow them to watch video and offers capabilities more akin to a netbook.

I'm sure eBooks, like iTunes, also won't be the new industry standard. Pen is usually right about stuff though, so I'm gonna have to wait to see how this plays out.

Do any libraries offer digital books yet? If so, does the Kindle format or eBooks have an edge in the freestuff market?

I'm looking your way, suburb losers with fancy libraries.
