Quick, who played Left Field for the Cubs when Paul Assenmacher picked up his first blown save in 1990?  And what was the weather like that day?

I can only guess Dwight Smith or Lloyd McClendon.

If it was Dwight, and he sang the anthem before the game, then it was sunny.

LF was patrolled by the formidable duo of Luis Salazar and Doug Dascenzo that day, my friend.

Good god Smith was in right field?  Kinda surprised that clown college didn't make an error contributing to that day's demise.
I think he's more of the appendix of Desipio.  Yeah, it's here and you're vaguely aware of it, but only if reminded.  The only time anyone notices it is when it ruptures (on Weebs in the video game thread).  Beyond that, though, it's basically useless and offers no redeeming value.

Any David Patton news? There has to be a valid reason we kept this guy on our roster last year right?

The last time a Patton was involved in a sneak attack, it looked like this:

Sadly, he wasn't at D-Day.

QuoteNear the end of the Sicilian campaign, Patton jeopardized his career by slapping a soldier recuperating from battle fatigue at a hospital; Patton considered him a coward. The well-publicized incident caused General Dwight D. Eisenhower to relieve him of command. Thus, instead of playing a major part in the Normandy Landings and Operation Overlord, he was relegated to acting as a decoy in Operation Quicksilver.

Operation Quicksilver: the Rule 5 DL stash of cross-Channel invasions.

Patton was involved in the sneak attack, though.

The Germans even thought that Normandy was a fake and kept 99 divisions up at Pas-de-Calais for weeks on end because there figured there was no way in hell that Ike would waste his best general like that.

So this SNEAK ATTACK involves forcing every other team in the NL to specifically tailor their rosters to meet the awesomeness that is Dave Patton.  Then, on opening day, we hit them with Les Walrond.  They'll never see it coming.

This wasn't common knowledge?

Point taken.  Here's something that isn't common knowledge.

Irish Yeti's grandfather was really ANGRY over how the newspapers treated Charles Lindbergh.  So he decided to make things right by posting the details of Operation OVERLORD and and Operation QUICKSILVER in the comments section of Hitler's blog.  His plans were foiled because the internet wasn't around yet.

Ryan Theriot was just hit on the wrist by something named Dolis in batting practice. I want this Dolis. Bring him to me. I will give him whatever he needs to finish the job.

Careful.  If Theriot goes down, they'll start Castro in the majors to satisfy the meatheads and he'll put up a .250/.298/.314 line this year and then everyone will hate him and he'll be run out of town before he's 22.

Good. Might as well get this new failure over and done with as quick as possible.

Castro has already served his purpose. He brought us the comparison to Jumpsteady, who in turn, brought us to the hilariously named Dave Bancroft. Giggles all around.

While we're on the subject of the Cubs boning Sploogelin Cumstro's future, are they really going to send him to AAA to start the year (assuming Theriot's heart doesn't fall out)? Dude spent all of a month in AA last year.
