Tyler Colvin is 3 for 4 so far today and is pretty damn awesome.  I don't care what anyone says, my irrational man crush of 2010 is Colvin.

This has been a loooooooooooooong offseason.

That's because it started in August.

I'm with Jaydee.

HE STILL HAS A CHANCE TO PROVE PEOPLE WRONG!

As for Colvin, he may have "earned" a roster spot, but if he's a real prospect how could they not start him in Iowa?  There's no upside to keeping him now.  What are they going to do--start him over a more proven player like Fukudome, wherein Colvin could still conceivably crash and burn worse than Fuku in late '08 and have his progress severely retarded?  But then how would that compare to the alternative, wherein the kid is called on to pinch-hit in pressure situations?   It's okay to have a crush on the guy now, but to advocate for him to make the roster is lunacy to me.
I think he's more of the appendix of Desipio.  Yeah, it's here and you're vaguely aware of it, but only if reminded.  The only time anyone notices it is when it ruptures (on Weebs in the video game thread).  Beyond that, though, it's basically useless and offers no redeeming value.

One theory I've read suggests that he'll see a lot of PT in LF while Soriano's leg gets back to 100%, while spending some games in CF with Byrd shifting to RF against lefties, up until May/June when Nady gets healthy.  Inevitably he will probably either find himself demoted to Iowa in order to get some more ABs, or he'll push Fuku out of the regular lineup all together, giving the Cubs both the most expensive middle reliever and backup outfielder in baseball.  I'm thinking, though, that it will be the former.

I was driving across the Centennial Bridge here in the Quad Cities and out the passenger side window I saw them getting the local minor league park in shape for the upcoming season, and god damnit, I was excited for baseball season. Right after that initial wave of enthusiasm all of the familiar criticisms came flooding back and I started worrying about the back of the rotation, the lack of experience (and probably talent) in the bullpen, the aging of Ramirez, Lee, Soriano, etc. and you know what? Fuck it. Baseball season is two weeks away. I'm slapping on the optimism and saying that it's the year. All they need is about 20 career years and this team is a fucking lock to win it all. I've got all of July and the rest of the year to be pissy and grumpy, but damnit, I'm too young to be as bitter as Huey and too likeable to be as pessimistic as Chuck. I managed to convince myself that a team with Mark Clark starting a playoff game could win a World Series, why can't I do the same now? So fuck y'all. Bring on the crack of the bat, James Earl Jones, Eddie Vedder sap and play ball.

I have tickets to like 10 games this year and leave for Arizona in the morning. Yet, I haven't been less excited about a baseball season since 1995 after the strike. In those days I was a soon-to-be high school graduate with no college plans. I'd recently been arrested and kicked off the baseball team right before the season started. All I cared about was my girlfriend, getting chiefed with my friends, listening to Wu-Tang and watching New York Knicks basketball. My life is completely different now. In the past 15 years I've worked my fucking ass off to get into the position I'm in now. I'll have the resources and the proximity to truly enjoy this season the way I always dreamed I would during those dark days between the corn and the beans with an outlook less promising than the prophecies of Nostradomous. What happened along the way? Did I change? Fuck no. The 2008 playoffs happened and then last year happened and now I'm just kind of done. The emotion, the love, the angst. Meh. I'm that guy now. Just give me a beer and a seat in the sun. I'll look at some titties and forget who plays second for every team in the league. GO CUBS GO!!!111!!!!

Go Boilers though Bulldogs!!11!!!!!!

This happened.

QuotePEORIA, Ariz. -- Tyler Colvin is in.

Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Sunday the young outfielder, who was batting .475 this spring, has made the Opening Day 25-man roster.

There are now four players -- Kevin Millar, Chad Tracy, Micah Hoffpauir and Sam Fuld -- battling for one spot on the Cubs' bench.

Or Mountain Dew.
This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.
