White Sox logic
« on: March 03, 2010, 09:05:24 AM »
It's perfectly reasonable to expect the fine patrons of Chicago hotels coming in to spend a night or two so they can take in a few Cubs' games or attend theater or go to any of the fine street festivals or shop on the mag mile or conduct business in one of the world's financial centers to subsidize the White Sox' stadium. But it's reprehensible that a guy in Glendale who gets lost looking for meth and winds up buying a $10 ticket to a White Sox-Royals split squad game to have one dollar go to build the Cubs a new stadium.

I hate subsidized sports complexes, but isn't this "Cubs tax" more of a user fee than the Reinsdorf-Big Jim Thompson deal that taxed the shit out of hotels to pay for Comiskular (and later Soldier Field)?

Well, it's more of a non-user fee because you get charged for using a similar product even if you don't use the product being financed.

That said, it's terrific to see socialists like Reinsdorf complain when his capitalistic pursuit of profit is potentially reduced due to one of his partner's similar socialistic pursuits.

And, yes, the Cubs are Reinsdorf's partner.  How many tickets would the Sox sell in June if the Cubs didn't show up?

In fact, were I Ricketts, I'd "Cubbie Blue Flu" the Cubs-Sox games unless Reinsdorf shuts up.

By that, do you mean send a substandard team over there and lose?

I think they've been trying that.

And speaking of White Sox logic, what the fuck is with all of the talk about the Sox trading for Adrian Gonzalez?  It all started when Mark Gonzalez quoted Peavy as saying that Kenny Williams asked him about Gonzalez at Sox Fest.

Suddenly it turned into the Sox dealing for him immediately.

A couple (three) problems here.

1) They traded what few prospects they had to get Peavy.
2) When Kenny got bent over by the Blue Jays and had to take Alex Rios' huge-munguous contract, coupled with what they assumed in the Peavy deal, they don't have any money left.
3) While Gordon Beckham isn't the star the Sox fans want to make him out to be, he is pretty damned good, and he's cheap for the next five years, so trading him would be dumb.

By the way, apparently when Kenny claimed Rios, he thought the Jays would try to work out a trade and he could get them to eat some of Rios' contract.  He had no idea they'd just say "take him."  Proof again, that Kenny's a fucking moron.  But hey, he built the 2005 team that apparently won a World Series.  Even if he thought he was building a team around speed and defense and it ended up winning with homers and starting pitching.

No, I think he's suggesting they forfeit the games to make Reinsdorf feel the pain.

I get confused which Chuck Chuck to Chuck is.  Because if it's the Gittles who manages
to discuss the business side intelligently, then he should be punching himself in the face
repeatedly for such a business-retarded idea.

A marginal win in the MLB costs (rough numbers) $5 million.  So forfeiting three games is
around a $7.5 million dollar bad idea.  And it's going to piss off all your fans and players.  And
MLB would never let a team cry and take their ugly blue tops home with them over anything,
let alone some bullshit rich white dudes bitching stupid not-their-money bullshit media
comments that don't actually change anything but let said rich white dudes try and distract
people from their own bullshit grabs at the public's money.

The Ricketts might not be good owners, but at least they are better than Chuck.

He did say apparently.

Besides, that World Series worked out well for some.
This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.

I don't remember there being a World Series in 2005.

I'm still pretty sure there wasn't a series in 2005 or 2006.

If there were no World Series since 1908 it would explain a lot.
