This is bizarre timing...seems like something the Raiders would do.

Almost seems vindictive to fire him now when most of the coaching spots are filled up, considering he would certainly have been able to find a soft landing spot (if not as HC, at least as DC) somewhere.

I guess a couple DCs are still in play (Philly, Arizona), but hard to imagine the Dolphins would have kept Sparano if Fisher was available (if not elsewhere too.)

He'll probably chill out for a year and wait for the meatheads to run Lovie and Jay out of town after the Bears go 5-11.

The way this situation was handled indicates extreme incompetence on the part of management, but they may have blundered into the right solution. Neither one was taking the franchise anywhere, unless perennial contender for 2nd place in the AFC South is your aim.
