If anyone has any job leads in technical sales in Colorado or California, this is a good time to send them my way.  I still have a job, but this thread makes me wat to not spend so much on mine and/or grow my own.

Get out, Oleg.

Not a bad idea.

I'd be sadly disappointed if Oleg grew anything other than bonsai weed.

Oleg, we've been through this. Small-scale indoor growing is not a thrifty proposition. Outdoor growing cannot be rushed and is even more subject to catastrophe. The only thing that is directly purchased is the entertainment of sitting around watching the plants. I don't deny the appeal of this, but don't mistake it for a savings.

I have a 400 watt HPS and 30 gallon reservoir for anybody who can locate Gil's spare coffee maker. Submersible pumps extra.

The point isn't the savings, it's the control.  Sure, you don't have to make your own  beer in order to be a beer connoisseur, but if you're a beer connoisseur, it's probably more fun to make your own.

I don't think this is a fair apples-to-apples comparison as a huge variety of wonderful beer is freely available on the open market.

Home brewing is a shitton of work that frequently results in a piece of crap end product, very often much worse than a lot of the stuff you can get from your local beer-o-rama.

Whereas, with growing your own grass you can produce an end product that's often not only higher quality than you can get (depending on your connections, of course) but also right in your living room whenever you want it.

Abbie Hoffman made the suggestion, in "Steal this Book" I believe, that if you took a bag of weed and buried it in the ground and then dug it up a few months later, that it would be "some moldy, kick-ass weed".  Sadly, I was never motivated enough to find this out on my own.
