I still maintain that they were the same guy.  Darwin Barney is the beer-drinking, blue collar lug and champion of meatballs everywhere.  "Blake DeWitt" is his cognac sipping, upper-crust dandy of an alter-ego.  Together, they were a beautiful scam for one sub-par 2nd baseman to draw two paychecks from the Cubs organization.  Then Hendry had to go and get himself fired, and the jig was up.

Maybe this belongs in the "I admit it" thread, but...

I'm actually looking forward to seeing some games this year. They're going to suck enough to where cheap tickets shouldn't be too hard to come by, but there will be a few guys there who you can actually see being part of a good team in a couple years.

This all feels very much like 1982. Maybe they should even bring back the "Building A New Tradition" and "The Cubs Are Out Of Hibernation" marketing campaigns while they're at it.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing some games this year. They're going to suck enough to where cheap tickets shouldn't be too hard to come by, but there will be a few guys there who you can actually see being part of a good team in a couple years.

This all feels very much like 1982. Maybe they should even bring back the "Building A New Tradition" and "The Cubs Are Out Of Hibernation" marketing campaigns while they're at it.

With any luck (and to be fair, there's no Kane or Toews on the team as far as I can tell), this will have a 2007-08 Blackhawks feel to it. No playoffs, but the excitement's back, and instead of losing to the Padres in 5 in 2014, maybe the Cubs can beat the newly-realigned Phillies in 6.

While multiple reports say that the Chicago Cubs’ hopes of landing Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes are fading, other reports say that they are very much in the mix for one of his countrymen.

That outfielder is Jorge Soler, who is only 19 years old -- seven years younger than Cespedes -- and considered to be a five-tool prospect. Sources told MLB.com that the Cubs would be willing to spend $27.5 million on Soler, but the sources were not sure how many years that would be spread over. Soler, who is in the Dominican Republic, has not been declared a free agent yet.

Might take a while to actually get him, but Soler would be a great signing. He'd immediately jump ahead of Jackson and Rizzo as our the Cubs' top prospect and probably top 10 in all of baseball.
