Stew is old, and in his day you were required to work the same occupation as your father, so I thought he'd understand that system.

Really?  What kind of caste system do you think existed?  My Dad didn't finish high school and worked in a factory.  In my day the goal of parents was to see to it that their kids did better than they did.

He had you confused with Jesus.

So Stew was born AFTER feudalism? Honest mistake.

Well done, Jon.  That's the gayest ZING! ever.

Well, that was kind of the point. Did you read SKO's post?

That's our Huey!

In defense of my lame zinger, I didn't think Stew would take my caste comment seriously to begin with. I'm well aware that Stew had the freedom to choose his own occupation, which I've gathered from various comments meant that he, the grandson of Russian Jewish  socialist immigrants, became a labor lawyer. I'd just like Stew to tell me what it was like to testify in front of HUAC.

Thank you for asking.  This is what it was like:

Yes, I was there.  I was a third year law student and this was the day that I became a radical.

Damn. That's interesting. I don't care what Dubbs says about your movie reviews, you're awesome.

Aw shucks.

Did Roy Cohn come on to you?

Cohn was McCarthy's senate aide.  HUAC was the House of Representatives.  I am not sure that Cohn was even around in 1960.  My hero in those hearings was Archie Brown.  He was an employee of the ILWU in San Francisco.  (Years later I hired his granddaughter as a secretary.)  After he was sworn in and they asked the preliminary questions they got right to the heart of the matter.  "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?"  Archie got this great smile on his face and said, "You mean to tell me that all of you travelled all the way from Washington to San Francisco at the expense of the taxpayers to ask me that when you could have spent 10 cents to buy a Call Bulletin to get the answer to that question?"   How could you not love that guy?

Years later, Woody Allen made a movie called "The Front"  where  he played a schlemeil who let blacklisted screen writers use his name on their scripts so they could make a living at the only thing that they knew how to do.  When he finally gets called before the Committee and they ask him if he was a member of the Communist Party his answer was "You know what?  Fuck you."  The line drew applause in the theaters, but in my mind mind it paled in comparison to Archie's answer.

Maybe it's just the fact that I don't follow college football, but am I alone in associating a guy named Manti with monster condoms for magnum dongs?

Maybe Cal can't beat Stanfurd at football, but when it comes to Rugby:
