Honestly, we could play the “who’s more delusional” game again here with Phil Rogers and Mark Buehrle. Buehrle got lit up by the Rangers who hit better at home than they do on the road, and blamed it on them relaying signs to the hitter through some elaborate set up that involves putting a camera on the catcher and turning on different lights in an office building in the outfield. Huh? It’s not like Buehrle ever just says stupid stuff. He didn’t tell a St. Louis reporter two offseasons ago that he can’t wait to play for the Cardinals, and he didn’t accuse Greg Maddux of throwing a spitter this year. Oh, wait. He did. He says he had better stuff last night than he did last week in Minnesota and since the Rangers hit him and the Twins didn’t they had to be cheating. It’s not like the Rangers have a better offense than the Twins? Nah. It’s never that.
The Cubs finally gave up and will have Kerry Wood’s shoulder “cleaned up” on Wednesday. So what did they do last night? They pitched him! On the list of “things too dumb for even the Cubs to to” this one has to be scratched off it. You can almost hear the gears in Dusty’s head grinding to a halt as he thinks, “Hey, if he gets hurt tonight, they’re going to be fixing him on Wednesday anyway!” If you have a pitcher who you owe between $14 and $26 million the next two years and he’s hurt, so hurt that he’s going to have surgery, you do not use him just for kicks. Wow. I mean, just…wow.
Mariotti puts down the doughnut to overreact again. The Bears said what every football team in history has said at one time or another about a rookie. They said that Cedric Benson will start at the bottom of the depth chart and have to prove his way to the top. Mariotti wets his pants in desperation, because he thinks Cedric’s growth will be stunted. First of all, I’ve seen Cedric and he’s tall enough. Second, does anybody really think that he’ll stay behind Antoineo Harris and Adrian Peterson for more than a week or so? Get a grip, man.
Speaking of a team unwilling to play rookies, The Wizard of Roz explains how the Bears’ rookie QB will be just fine. Wait, didn’t Kyle have to work his way up the depth chart? Didn’t it take him two weeks after Rex fell down and couldn’t get up to get all the way to the top? I think it did.
Maria Sharapova was on the Universal HD channel last night. Very nice. Even if I did have to watch her play tennis.
Indians GM Mark Shapiro won’t say if the team is going to trade for Todd Walker. I’m torn. I don’t want the Cubs to trade Walker, but Ronnie Belliard’s not exactly getting his fat ass on base for the Tribe and Walker could help them get even closer to the Sox. Screw it. The Cubs need to keep him.
Wait, the Red Sox had enough good sense to dump Mike Remlinger (though they were dumb enough to pick him up in the first place) and now they’re after Steve Trachsel?
