DPD.  Interesting graphic from the L.A. Times comparing each team's payroll, position by position.

And a very thoughtful commenter adds some precious insight:

Well, she's not wrong.

She's a poet.

IT TAKES GREAT CONFIDENCE FOR AN INDIVIDUAL TO GIVE UP A SECURE SITUATION IN ORDER TO VENTURE OUT ONTO PATHS THEY'VE NOT TREADED.

Rizzo signed through 2019 for $41MM (two club options and escalators could keep him signed through 2021 when he'd be 32 for $73MM)
You two wanna go stick your wangs in a hornet's nest, it's a free country.  But how come I always gotta get sloppy seconds, huh?

DPD.  MLBTR commenter and Cardinals fan Kyle Noe, if only you frequented Desipio you wouldn't say such silly things:

QuoteFirst basemen who hit for power, steal bases, and field well don't grow on trees. Nicely done, Cubbies - Sincerely, Cards fan. Competitive balance is good for baseball. I may have been the only Cards fan who was ecstatic to see Theo take the reins in Chicago. We've always had an enjoyable and friendly rivalry, and now it looks like it will be more of a competitive one as well.

Get a brain, moran.

Theo/Jed should start going after everyone Rizzo's agent represents. This is a great deal for the cubs.

This is a great idea, in the abstract.

Pretty good for Rizzo, too.  He loses 1 year of free agency, and gets guaranteed generational wealth level income after only 173 major league games played.

Not bad for a cancer survivor who has been traded twice.

Massive applause all around.

I know it doesn't matter at all but the Cubs are only one game behind Milwaukee and the White Sox record-wise. If they were to finish ahead of either I'd laugh.

I'm already laughing at the Sox.  Cub fans had no expectations for 2013.  Sox fans, however, were hoping they would have the stamina to not fade like they did last year after a surprisingly strong start.  Instead it looks like the wheels are coming their turdwagon pretty early.  BWAHAHAHAHA.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.
