Title: Burn Notice
Post by: CT II on August 21, 2007, 12:25:46 PM
Anybody besides me watching this show?  Hello?  Anyone?

Me, I like it.  Although time has ravaged the once youthful face of Gabrielle Anwar.

It's on USA on Thursday at 9 central.

I've been watching it.  Not bad in a summer with little else to kill the time between Cubs games.  Bruce Campbell is great as the 'retired' spy informing the Feds on Michael's activity.

It's a solid, enjoyable show.

Gabrielle Anwar's face may be showing some age, but her body is still tight as hell.

Love the show.

Big fan of Donovan since his Pretender days (mostly from Touching Evil though).
I also love the thing that ate Bruce Campbell.
And I support drilling Anwar.

Bump.

Season 2 started tonight.  Good news, this show is still awesome.

I caught up via Hulu and a USA marathon the other week. I like it, and it has a format that will help it stay on the air (episode long story arcs inside of season long story arcs). The premiere tonight was all right. I came up with a joke while watching tonight and came here to post it...

I hope USA has this OnDemand.  I saw previews for it last night and thought it had potential.  Reading this thread makes me disappointed I missed the show.

Gabrielle Anwar?  Doesn't ring a bell...google here I come!

I'm back from the wilds of the internet.  I second the motion to drill Anwar.

It's nice to see they didn't try to overhaul the show in the downtime.  Now if they could only manage to work in USA staple Paul Ben-Victor.

Love this show.  USA really puts out some quality shows.  I'm a big Monk and Psych fan, and I'm starting to like In Plain Sight.  The first season of Burn Notice is out on DVD.

I expected more with the whole story line of why he was burned than we got.  Cliffhanger wasn't as good as the first season but it's still a good show.

(1) It's a pretty lightweight action, but very entertaining.
(2) Gabrielle Anwar's body is worth the time, especially in HD.

That's actually the title of the new pilot I've been writing.  I figure the name of the star can change to whomever I can land.  Conan O'Brien in Tight, Small Clothing coming this fall to the CW.

Saami Slaky is right, though.

It's still an entertaining show, but Jeffrey Donovan's acting is laughably awful. Especially in episodes where he gets to play Michael Westen playing someone else.

Remember his Irish accent? Or the time he pretended to be a guy in a red shirt and tie who blew shit up in the barrio every time he snapped his fingers? Comical.

Comical.

Oh, he's bad, no doubt.  But I don't find it detracts from the show that much.  It ain't Hamlet.

You know, I saw him on stage a couple of years ago in some slapstick farce comedy and he wasn't that bad. But on the show he's a total robot.

Was it Hamlet?

Damn you, Folio!

Slaky won't like "The Expendables" either.

He needs to know something doesn't need to be "good" to be awesome.

Here's the thing... I wouldn't really call Burn Notice "awesome."

It's not awesome.  But the one two weeks ago was about a good as mindless TV can get.

This is why I turned off Burn Notice after five minutes:

http://www.rumormiller.com/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=110&r=Burn+Notice+Star+Is+Terrible+Actor+%28Updated%29

They refer in the review to his girl friend as being "weird looking".   If she is "weird looking"  then I don't think that my ateries could withstand "bizarre".

It's Magnum P.I. 2K.  That's alll I need out of it.  Well, maybe Donovan could sport a stache and a birds or paradise shirt.

Not by a longshot. But besides the writing, acting and editing it was... nah, it was just bad. The dude and his woman broke into some office building and stole... phone records? And while he was hacking the computer to steal the phone records - a narrator's voice told me that was what he was doing, thank goodness - the chick ripped posters off of walls and spray painted the place - a narrator's voice said that was so that it looked like a disgruntled ex-employee had done it. Then there was a bit of witty, nonchalant banter between the two while a huge explosion from a tiny bit of material lit on fire in a trash can went off. And they walked out together. It was very NCIS. Only worse.

Dude, you know the dude?

That's the narrator, dude.

When you're a spy, it's important to supply a running commentary explaining everything you do. But, whether you're assassinating a foreign diplomat in Kiev, running a false-flag op in the Balkans or just breaking into to some office in South Beach to steal their phone records, usually three examples will suffice.

Or something. I just prefer that directors show rather than tell. In most cases the running commentary is there to add something useful to the plot, not just explain what the fuck is going on. It's dickless.

Christ on a Bike! I saw this movie one time and I enjoyed it because it was about a guy who likes softball, beer, weed, boobs and beer. I had a laugh or two along the way. I have a few friends who also enjoy those things and might also enjoy this movie so I suggest anyone who is interested see it. If you don't like it, I won't get asshurt. It's entirely possible that this movie is crap and upon a second viewing I'd realize that.

It is definitely true that Burn Notice is a bad show. That's why it's on USA for fuck sake. Jesus.

So, what you seem to be saying is: it may well have been a shitty movie and, in any case, was hardly Citizen Kane, but you still managed to enjoy it nonetheless on its own merits.

Funny how that works.
