OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Bill Russell, in an LD telephone service ad from 1973:

There aren't any actual words in the advertisement.

Alright, who saw last night's episode?  I almost fell off my couch laughing when Charlie was singing that song (if you can call it that) about being American...awesome...I hope that's on You Tube soon.

Before the end of the day I'll have to transcribe the lyrics to that.  I went back and watched it three times before watching the rest of the episode.

Andy Kaufman vs Jerry Lawler on Letterman, uncensored.

Best part is Paul and the World's Most Dangerous Band playing "Knee Deep" by Parliament on the way to commercial.

They used to love that song.  That, and any Sly Stone song.  Hiram Bullock was in the band back then, good guitar player.

I'm telling you, when they played that Bowie song I was hooked. What a cool concept though, they make it impossible to tell how they're going to explain all this.

I was pretty bored with it until the song kicked in.  Co-incidental or not, that's when the show started to kick ass for me.

There's a crazy, white fleshed-out video for "Life On Mars" around out there that Mick Rock directed.  I'll try to find it ...

Finallly finished the first episode, very cool stuff.  The writers could have made his situation a lot more desperate (not that it wasn't desperate enough) by making his co-workers a hundred times more obstinate, but they held off.  Too much despair makes Kelly bored.  Very good start.

Didn't the Jam open up for Blue Oyster Cult on their first US tour?  Yikes.

The Jam remains the loudest band my Dad ever saw.  They brought their outdoor PA into the Park West back in the late 70s, and my Dad recalls his bell-bottom trousers actually vibrating from the sound in the band's upstairs dressing room.

That tiny bass is called a Stein ... something.  Maybe a Steinberg.  I used to know someone with a guitar version of it, and I've played it a half dozen times.  Now, I should preface this by saying that I actually like and still defend Tin Machine, which was David Bowie's side project in the early 90s.  Their first album was a semi-hit, and their secnd album was much better.  Anyway, their guitarist Reeves Gabrels played a guitar like that (he stuck with Bowie for a few years later, though he switched to a Parker guitar), so I was anxious to borrow it anytime I could around 1992-93 -- before I picked up my Brian May guitar.

It's a nasty little thing, very fuzzy, and just as minimalist and robotic as you'd think.  Perfect for making compressed, fuzzy music.  Think Boston's guitar sound at its worst, or any 90s Bowie/NIN (though I hate NIN) at best.  Very loud humbucking pickups that don't need much to distort.  Real musicians play instruments that suit them, no matter how lame or passe they look; and though I'm not Gabrels' biggest fan (nor do I listen to much post-Black Tie White Noise- Bowie), he should be commended for creating some nasty, snarly music out of such a lame looking gee-tar.

Steinberger...can't keep the little f@#$ers in tune. I've always been a Rick bass man, myself (ever since seeing Bruce Foxton with one)

I grew a mullet after seeing him with one.

I meant to watch it because of all the pub, but only tuned in about halfway through and decided to wait until another time.  Is it super-heavy on 1973-references?  Is there a lot of disbelief to suspend?

Changing topics, the guy who covered all the David Bowie songs on the Steve Zissou soundtrack did a great version of "Life On Mars."

I just don't like the fact that my To-do list isn't showing it on the queue for 6-29, even though it's showing a "Taxi" and other shows scheduled to be recorded on that day.  It's also not showing the Game 5 that I've already programmed in for Sunday, no Tom Goes to the Mayor for Monday morning, etc.  It's missing shows and I don't know whyyyy...

I did watch the blonde from "Sunny" (Larry David's sister-in-law, kinda) in a Punk'd episode last week.

It's not showing up on my Tivo for some reason, though I've had it on Season Pass since the premiere.  Could this be the end?  Do I have to venture to DVR-land?

no no, no season premiere yet. It's not until June 29th.

The FX premiere, I's be meanin', and it's still not showing up.  The damn thing's been passing on recording some other stuff recently, probably in mourning over the last season of Dallas it had to record over the first part of June.
