There are a fuckload of really good music documentaries on Netflix, and this is one of them.
Nilsson was a tortured genius pretty much from birth. He wrote some great songs, yet his two biggest hit records ("Everybody's Talkin'", "Without You") were written by other people.
It also doesn't hurt, from a personal standpoint, that I've loved his stuff since I was in 3rd or 4th grade and heard "Coconut" and watched "The Point" on TV.
I'll check it out. Nillson is a phenomenal songwriter.

The guy was fucking gifted.
I've just queued it up and it probably won't take any convincing to get the music historian / pianist that I married to watch it with me.
(seriously, anybody want to buy a piano? we've got 4 of them.)
Thanks Fork.

It was worth it.

Seconded... but don't watch them back to back. If you do and you still aren't too depressed to move, look up the Badfinger episode of 'Behind the Music' on YouTube. That one will knock you out.
Since watching this, I've rediscovered what a fucking amazing album Aerial Ballet is.

Watch the documentary on Paul Williams. At least that one has a happy ending.
