1) Has anyone else noticed that the only SPORTS! they show on the tv in the bar is a Wisconsin basketball game?
2) I think Fiona is fantastic in every possible way, but I can't seem to figure out her accent - it's a bit New York for the South Side.

I think it's far too simplistic to sit back and say that because this country is so great (which it undoubtedly is) that to change it - or want to change it - is heresy.  Many people like to cite the Founders for so many things, both rightly and wrongly, but I think one thing that we can credit them with is the foundation of a country that has change and evolution as part of its ethos.  The country was founded by people who wanted to improve not just their lives, but the lives of others.  They wrote a seminal document - the Declaration - that purposefully makes this country's goals practically unobtainable because they wanted future generations to strive towards them - almost without end.  They signed on to a document that espoused the universal rights of every man, let castigated so many to slavery.  They were pragamatists because they realized that addressing the problem would rip the country apart (which it did anyway) but because they wanted to let future generations debate these issues.  Look at the 8th amendment to the Constitution.  It's purely a matter of interpretation.  They put the 9th and 10th amendments in there because they wanted to allow other generations to breathe life into the document, not be bound by their edicts. 

So, in short, I think it's one of the most noble acts of patriotism to want to change your country.  And loving it, whilst attempting to do so, is not a vice.

He's OK, but he's a bit jaundiced -- they actually put him under the lights instead of discharging us when we were supposed to go home -- and as a result he's very sleepy, and as a result, he's not gaining weight as quickly as they would like.  But I think we're on the right track.

If it makes you feel better, my daughter is almost 2 and still really underweight (4th percentile), and we stress about food constantly.

Just wanted you to know that it doesn't get any easier.

On the flip side, my oldest son had severe eating issues (his GERD was so bad that we had to beg the specialist to put him on a trial medicine at 6 months that was not supposed to be used until at least a year) as an infant.  Eating was so painful for him that he arched in a bow and spit anything and everything out, and we could only feed him when he was asleep.  At nine months, it was almost like a switch was flipped and he became a very happy and content baby.  He is now a happy and content seven year-old (and is actually our best eater).

So congrats, and keep your chin up.

I think the NFL sees an opportunity to romanticize this game.  I also wonder whether the recent trend toward playing games in unusual settings is impacting said romanticism (maybe they should only thaw out only one half of the field and switch sides a la Wrigley).

It does seem a bit hypocritical, though.

They're right. Every last one of them. Frozen Field Turf is worse than frozen grass, too, but I'd go so far to say that the Bears should insist on inspecting the field and if it's not to their liking insisting on another venue. "There's a reason that cold weather fields around the league have coils under them," Longwell said. "That's so you can be able to put your cleat in the ground. To have a FieldTurf field that's been sitting under snow for a couple of months with no coils, it's kind of one of those things where it's uncharted territory.

"You don't know if you're going to be able to wear cleats, you don't know if you're going to have to wear more like a running shoe with rubber on the bottom. I don't know if we have much choice in the issue, but it certainly does not sound like an ideal scenario footingwise without the coils and with a field that has not been protected for the last couple of months."
