Jesse Rogers says "low minor leaguer(s)." Cubs are on the hook for only $4M of the $20M owed.

It's Rollie Lacy, plus another pitcher and a PTBNL, supposedly.
Here's hoping he pitches like a guy who can be trusted to start postseason games instead of just Left Handed Dan Haren.

Who of Lester/Hendricks/Quintana/(healthy) Darvish does he bump?

Uh, he bumps Tyler Chatwood. And then Darvish replaces Montgomery.
Quote from: Jon Greenberg, The AthleticThey gave Texas a Class-A pitcher in Rollie Lacy along with a player to be named later ("Hey Texas, how about taking Jason Heyward's contract, I mean Jason Heyward."), the recently found Eddie Butler, aka the "poor man's Jake Arrieta," aka "Hobo Who Lost His Bindle Jake Arrieta."
That had the cadence of a joke.

You think Joe's going with a 5-man rotation in October?

I thought you were talking about the 5-man. At this point I'd be surprised if Darvish makes any postseason starts.
Not a bad way to get his Cub career going - maybe next time his first inning he throws closer to 15 than 30 pitches, but definitely an upgrade over Chatwalk.

He'd have been fine if Elite Shortstop Addison Russell was actually capable of making a routine throw with that rag arm of his. But at least his offense mak--never mind.

12th in MLB in WAR among SS. So he's resoundingly adequate.

He shows elite mediocrity.
12th in MLB in WAR among shortstops when you remember Carlos Correa has been hurt and doesn't have enough PA to qualify. So really he's at best the 13th best shortstop in baseball. Which I guess isn't bad since I'm quite sure he's the second best shortstop on his own team.

He'd look great in a Mets uniform.

The thread where we get Cole Hamels some better run support by getting rid of Addison Russell.
So far I am not unimpressed.

Six innings and less than 100 pitches? What is this sorcery?
Cole Hamels is, in fact, good.
Cole Fucking Hamels.
Considering Darvish shut down after an inning in South Bend yesterday, this deal is even larger now. Especially if Yu has the Tommy John Disease, this makes Hamels' option a no-brainer.

I'm shocked - SHOCKED, I tell ya - to hear that Johnny Samplesize is FORKGM's new favourite player. I don't wish to piss on your bonfire, old fruit, but Hamels has been not good for a couple of years now, and three or four decent starts against lineups that haven't seen him since half way through 2015 don't mean much. I hope he continues to pitch like this right through to the beginning of November and that the Cubs have no choice but to sign him up next year for more of the same, but I ain't getting my hopes up.

It takes a pretty damn specific criteria, listed above to get excited about the picking up of said option. Shit, for all we know, Hamels only agreed to the trade if the Cubs agreed to not pick him up, and now he's just in a salary drive.
But if he keeps pitching like this (especially beyond Game 162), and likes being a Cub, who says no? I mean, in a perfect world, this time next year we're raising a glass to Hamels and enjoying a healthy Darvish and fixed Chatwood. And that twenty mildo that would have been Hamels being most of Machado's annual compensation for plying his trade between Kris Bryant and Javy Baez.
