Especially once there's enough other guys around him to the point where he knows the offense doesn't have to fall to him or Rozzi every day.

Yeah, that's not a real thing.

When's Rozzi going to start hitting?

Hopefully after Slorer, Beza, Amlaro, Vobelgach and other reinforcements get here.

Many Szczvs and Vuuttrs knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slorer that day, I can tell you!

Yes! Have some!

Should I be worried about him?

Depends on what your initial expectations were.

I think that's the problem. My expectations for Starlin were too high - something like an extended prime where he was a top 3 shortstop every year. At this point a top 10 SS is probably more realistic and probably not worth having a sad over.

You were the one who told us he was the next Garry Templeton, so I don't know why you expected Barry Larkin.

As it is, he's the best all-around SS the Cubs have had since Banks.

I don't think comparing him against decades of shitty players is really the right lens here.
I can't believe I even know these people. I'm ashamed of my internet life.

Great job not linking to the post in which I didn't say he was the next Garry Templeton.

His earlier lens was to compare him against current shitty players. Being a Cubs fan is awesome.

Hey old guys: was Garry Templeton any good?

QuoteIt's clear that the Cubs prospect is Reyes' inferior; Baseball America would rank Reyes its third overall prospect after the 2002 season, while Castro came in at 16 when the magazine released their list yesterday. Reyes displayed more patience and more power, Castro a better knack for contact. What interests me is the comparison between Templeton and Castro – both were impatient contact hitters with questionable power profiles.

QuoteTempleton never developed home run power, he never developed patience, and when his speed started to go (and the BABIP with it), Templeton was no longer a useful player. Using the WAR historical database, we see that Templeton was 25.2 wins above replacement player in his 16-year career. I think Castro can be better than this (he's already a little more patient than Templeton, and walks are preached more than ever nowadays), though his four-year peak of 14 WAR seems appropriate.

Garry's comparable players.
  1. Dick Groat (911)
  2. Royce Clayton (909)
  3. Dave Bancroft (879) *
  4. Roger Peckinpaugh (875)
  5. Dick Bartell (873)
  6. Tony Taylor (870)
  7. Jack Glasscock (868)
  8. Bill Russell (863)
  9. Orlando Cabrera (860)
 10. Joe Tinker (860) *

His nickname was "Jumpsteady". I'm sure Huey can come up with a good nickname off this for Castro.

And when you think about it, Templeton is pretty phallic. Temples are on the sides of a person's head, which is a slang term for oral sex, which typically involves hard weiners.

Because his OPS is .684 while Barney's is .695?

so? it was over .720 last week. He's on a cold streak. Historically, he heats up when the weather does. Based on monthly splits over his career, he should start heating up soon.

Great job not linking to the post in which I didn't say he was the next Garry Templeton.

No idea what you're talking about.

Your link took me to an Apex post. Also, I didn't write the article comparing Templeton to Castro, I just thought it might generate some interesting sportz talk.
