So is the dork thing just an act? I like this new Ricketts.

Also....is Theo going to have the power to stop all the singing at the ballpark?

I'd still rather Ricketts keep making moves like this behind the scenes and stay off the broadcasts. Joyful positive.
You two wanna go stick your wangs in a hornet's nest, it's a free country.  But how come I always gotta get sloppy seconds, huh?

Cubs moves that excited me:
1) Cubs sign Andre Dawson
2) Cubs draft Mark Prior
3) Cubs trade for Nomar Garciaparra
4) Cubs trade Leon Durham for Pat Perry and call up Mark Grace
5) Cubs call up Kerry Wood
6) Joe Carter and Mel Hall for Sutcliffe, Frazier, Hassey et al.
7) Cubs re-sign Greg Maddux
8) Cubs fire Chip Caray
9) Cubs hire Don Baylor/Dusty Baker/Lou Piniella
10) Cubs fire Hendry
11) Cubs fire Zimmer
12) Cubs trade for Fred McGriff
13) Cubs trade George Bell for Sosa
14) Cubs sign George Bell
15) Cubs sign Ted Lilly
16) Cubs hire Larry Himes
17) Cubs hire Jim Essian
18) Cubs trade for Scott Sanderson
19) Cubs trade Brant Brown for Jon Lieber straight-up
20) Cubs trade Ryan Theriot -- even if they had to send Lilly away too.
21) Cubs trade for Ramirez and Lofton
22) Cubs sign Randy Myers
23) Cubs fire Larry Himes
24) Cubs hire Andy MacPhail
25) Cubs sign Moises Alou
26) Cubs fire Ed Lynch
27) Cubs trade Mikey Barrett
28) Cubs sign Soriano
29) Cubs trade Crazy Julian to Marlins for Alfonseca and Clement
30) Cubs trade Felix Heredia for Alex Gonzalez

I'm sure there are others, but the point is, nothing comes close to Cubs hiring Theo Epstein.

The Cubs bring up Gene Baker to play second base.  (And bring along some other guy to be his roommate.)
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

I was really excited when the Cubs managed to get value for the separate Mel Rojas and Todd Hundley deals. But again, that's like breaking your own leg and then being lucky enough to have the tools to fix it.

I haven't been this excited about a GM since the Cubs hired Dallas Green.

Here's hoping he scraps the organization and rebuilds with a philosophy toward getting hitters who get on base and pitchers who throw stikes and get guys out.

It might just be crazy enough to work.

This situation is a lot like the one the Cubs were in when Green was hired. The way the team was operating under Wrigley clearly wasn't working and a complete makeover of the way the franchise operated was necessary. That same level of change is required now. Epstein has the chance to do just that and hopefully last longer than Green did.

His first move should be to shoot Crane Fucking Kenney.

Ricketts may actually know what he's doing.

No, his first move should be to worry about the on-field product, which Crane Kenney hasn't, doesn't and won't have anything to do with.

Eh, he can fire Crane first.  I mean, he can't make any player moves until after the World Series anyway.

Can he make front office hires before then?

I'm excited for the press conference to find out if he was indeed at Starbucks and then just to hear his take on how everything went down and what the big picture looks like for him.

Then I'm excited for him to send Mike Quade and Apex's hopes and dreams into the abyss of failure.

From there, I'm guessing, it's all downhill.

Boston Herald reporting that Theo is "on the brink" of joining the Cubs.

Still to determine:
- Compensation for Sox (Soto and Grabow FTW)
- How many titles they'll have to invent beyond GM to give Theo

The Cubs have to take John Lackey.

Gammons speculating Brett Jackson on Twitter.

That's the only cubs prospect Gammons knows.

That's because he's the only Cubs prospect who exists.

I haven't paid enough attention to baseball this year to even know who Brett Jackson is, but if he's as untradeable as Felix Pie or Hee Seop Choi or Josh Vitters or any of those pitchers everyone was whining about trading in 05/06, then I say bring in the cute Jewish boy.

Hi.  Wait...cute, huh?

Not as bile inducing as I expected for something with "Cubbies" in the title. I hate Greg Couch but he's basically writing the same thing I wrote but more drawn out and from the perspective of a three year old.
