I love when the talking heads come out and squash anyone who has a feeling about this trade saga. How dare you be annoyed that Dempster hasn't accepted a trade. How dare you want your team to get better.

But, CFiHP's headline-fueled haterage aside, do we even know that this is the actually case?

No but that's not the point. The point is to be hostile toward him on the internet so he'll start to hate it here and leave when asked. We're all doing our part. 103 years, man.

If only we could get Huey on the phone with Dempster's sister or something.

Is she a cop in Gurnee?

I'm just thinking he could ask her to tell Ryan to PICK A DAMN LANE.

Truth. The possibilities as I see them are:

1. Theo approaches Dempster a while back and asked what teams Dempster would go to. Dempster says he'd prefer the Dodgers but would also go to the Braves (and maybe a couple other teams). Theo says OK, we'll keep you in the loop if something is close. A couple weeks later, Dempster nods off during an According to Jim marathon and wakes up to tweets that he's been traded to the Braves. Dempster gets butthurt since he's used to the Jim Hendry Trading Method in which players not only are conferenced in on all trade discussions but sometimes get to trade themselves. Dempster decides to hold up or maybe kill the trade.

2. Theo never talked to Dempster.

Which one is more likely?

Wait just a damn minute here.

There was an "According to Jim" marathon on yesterday and no one told me?

I knew that we should be blaming Hendry for this.
If I had known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.   (Plagerized from numerous other folks)

Is it possible Huey could transform into an actual meatball when Delgado wins his first Cy Young?

QuoteAtlanta Braves' GM Frank Wren was on the radio this morning, and his message changed dramatically from last evening's "we're ready to wait on Ryan Dempster" line.

Now, he says, it's time to move on.

"We're not going to be painted into a corner," the GM said on an Atlanta radio station this morning. "We have moved on." Wren added that it is "highly unlikely" that the Braves will now acquire Dempster, and said that the parameters of the deal the two sides had in place "expired yesterday."

I hope Dempster goes to the Dodgers and gets shelled and ends up pitching for the White Sox next year.

I hope Dempster is traded to the Rangers for Bill Madlock, and on the Rangers' trip to Toronto, he agrees to take Josh Hamilton's and Ron Washington's luggage, and this time is granted no mercy by the Canadian judge, who hears testimony from Ferguson Jenkins who attests that Dempster's sense of humour is tantamount to terrorism. Maybe he can spend 25 years in a prison in St. Albert.

Maybe Theo will somehow pull a top prospect out of his hindquarters, but assuming he doesn't, Dempster has completely dicked the Cubs over here. If he only wanted to go to his precious Dodgers, he should've told Theo from the start, so the front office could at least attempt to create some fake leverage. Now the Dodgers have the  Gwyneth's-head-in-a-box upper hand.

The question is who is at fault?

If the simplest answer is the correct one, Dempster had LA at the top of his list and Atlanta somewhere below that. Theo and Jed worked up a deal with a team on his list and they worked out a damn good deal. Then a couple of things went awry. Dempster was annoyed and felt rushed into a process that he was under the impression he'd have a fair amount of control over. A trade was announced by the Atlanta beat reporters before Dempster was told about it. He was upset. Fine. He also wanted LA over any team - and it's possible he told Jed and Theo to try to see if they could make something work with LA. In the mean time the press ran with the info they had that said a deal was reached and needed Dempster's buy in to conclude. Dempster wasn't ready to give that buy in because he wanted to see if he could get his preferred destination. Keep in mind there's a week to go before the trade deadline so in his mind there's no hurry just yet.

So basically Dempster invoked the rights he's earned and while he hemmed and hawed and waited for a perfect situation Atlanta said screw this, we're out.

Sure, Dempster made the fans angry, his front office look bad, took away any leverage the Cubs had for a trade but he has his rights that he earned by not dying before he played five years for the Cubs. Way to go, man. Way to go.

Adding that what I don't get it is why Dempster would think it's in his own best interest to do something like this with mere months left in a contract year.

The Dodgers and Braves have virtually identical records. Is the difference between 2-3 months in LA and 2-3 months in Atlanta really important enough to him that he's willing to plant seeds of doubt in potential free agency suitors' minds?

Granted, that could be part of the reason he's pissed that word leaked out early. But that was the card he was dealt here. And it doesn't seem like it would really benefit him to dig in his heels once the shitstorm started blowing.
