C) They aren't planning to stay at 60 wins in 2014. They are shooting for 81+ that year.

SOURCE?

Chuck's ass.
This is so bad, I'd root for the Orioles over this fucking team, but I can't. Because they're a fucking drug and you can't kick it and they'll never win anything and they'll always suck, but it'll always be sunny at Wrigley and there will be tits and ivy and an old scoreboard and fucking Chads.

Would someone please tell me why a 60 something win team needs one multi-million dollar closer, let alone two?

A) They'll be down to 1 before the year is out.
B) The cost for the new guy for two years is about the cost of the existing guy for one year.
C) They aren't planning to stay at 60 wins in 2014. They are shooting for 81+ that year. And they'll need a closer for that. And they don't have a closer in the minors who will be ready in 2014.

Actually, the they don't have a closer in the minors who will ever be ready.

The whole the they?

I'm just glad that we've already settled on this guy as the closer for the future, sight-unseen. Because the team needs a Japanese player in the closer spot so my girlfriend will get all excited when the Cubs have the lead and be really happy when he closes out games - just like me! It'll be good for our relationship, I think. Because Japanese chicks like Japanese ballplayers almost as much as they like white dudes. It's science.

This is bad news.  Japanese TV only shows those American games of American teams that have Japanese players.  So my two year old grandson has yet to see a Cubs' game.  Now when we Skype there is likely to be a Cub game showing on their TV.  He may become a Cub fan.  That is a heavy burden for me to bear.

From Sullivan's Winter Meeting Notes package today:

Quote
Extra innings: The Brewers are willing to sign ex-Cub Ryan Dempster for two years, but he is holding out for three.

That would be so awesome.

I hope they give him four just to make sure they've got him locked down.

He'll get four from the Yankees after Jim Hendry convinces Brian Cashman it's the smart move.

If Dempster pitches like Rangers Dempster I'm all for it. But he's going to have a hot stretch wherever he pitches next year. Let's not pretend the guy is Jason Germano.

I wouldn't advise that. You would be crazy to let Dempster work on your Volvo, but Jason Germano might be your guy.

Now as far as Justin Germano, he has a bit more in common with Dempster, but the Canadian is better at most things pitching related. I'm pretty sure Germano does a better Harry Caray though.
