Alfonso Soriano.

Sounds like the Cubs will get back Corey Black, who throws hard but has control issues and isn't that good. He's not a top 20 prospect on the yankees, and their farm system isn't that great.  Cubs are paying roughly $17 million of Alfonso's deal. I'm not sure why every team wasn't more engaged, seems like the Yankees are getting one hell of a bargain for a reasonably good player (assuming Soriano would play for any other team besides New York).

Sounds like Soriano would have maybe only gone to the Yankees (or just a few other teams), so there wasn't a real market for him. Cubs saved some money and got an interesting prospect for a guy whose production is pretty replaceable at this point. Win-win, I guess.

Adding that it's come out now that the Yankees were the only team on Soriano's list. Given that restriction, I think the Cubs did well here.

I saw that too. That couldn't have helped the Cubs leverage. Better to trade him now then, before it got worse.

The Cubs had leverage, since Soriano has more HRs this month than the entire Yankees team, and the Yankees are in a state of perpetual "win now", regardless of how quickly they are hurtling toward late 80s/early 90s Yankee-era baseball. The Cubs' worst-case scenario would be keeping him, which I think EpHoyStink would have found acceptable as well.

Someone sure wanted Jake Peavy to get into the All-Star Game.

And how.

It seems Ryan Dempster married a spambot.

Peavy and Dempster could make other tales of Red Sox clubhouse drama sound like a picnic.

I have no idea how they haven't killed each other yet. Or did I read that they're actually good friends?

I mean they both bang Jenny Dempster so maybe they just used that as a springboard to friendship.

Actually, judging from her Twitter and Instagram feeds, it appears Jenny is now dating White Sox/Charlotte Knights third baseman Brent Morel.

So Peavy and Dempster might legitimately have some common ground as men spurned.

So she's still here in Chicago and they're no longer together. Sounds about right.

So, this is a Melissa Dickson that actually dates major league level players?

I think Melissa's given up on position players.
