OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Dan Vogelbach is joining the Mariners. Keep it here for pitch-by-pitch updates and commentary. THIS IS BIG AND REQUIRES ITS OWN THREAD

Try not to suck!

It was consistently funny and enjoyable over an economical one and a half hours. My favorite bit was the Will Arnett-helmed TMZ on TV parody. My second favorite bit was the Macklemore-skewering "Same Love" parody wherein Andy Samberg's character spent the entire song clarifying that he, himself, is not gay.

Desipio Lounge / 2016 Bears/NFL Thread?
May 01, 2016, 10:35:32 PM
Might as well have a thread for old time's sake, I guess?

The Lions have brilliantly decided to start playing mind games with their draft prospects to "see how they respond."

By most accounts the Bears had a very good draft.  Maybe I'll catch one game this season after all.  Time will tell, don't hold me to it.

I just saw this on Monday. A white-haired economics professor who no longer gives a shit learns how to give a shit when a couple who fell for a fraudulent deed are discovered renting his New York apartment. They are illegal immigrants. The prof is charmed by the African drum-playing Muslim and his African girlfriend.

I liked the movie, but I couldn't help but think the story would have been a lot more interesting told from the immigrants' perspective rather than using them as tools so a white man can learn something about himself and feel good. Eh.

Boobtube / The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Still so bad.  Way too much laughing at his own unfunny jokes.  (Seriously, like every single line cracks him up.  Wtf?)  What a shame.

Desipio Lounge / Spring Training Thread!

Who is in the best shape of his life? I must know!

Seriously though, Sloan Park was a good experience last year. If you have some money and a week to spare, you could do a lot worse.

Boobtube / Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
February 16, 2016, 07:04:26 PM
This show is possibly the best satire and topical/political humor on television. Especially with the sad demise of Colbert (seriously that show is everyman-catering trash now) and the replacement of Jon Stewart on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah, who is only fine at best and obnoxious at worst.

Sadly I don't have cable and TBS won't let you stream without authentication (assholes) so I can't watch Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, but the clips I saw on YouTube are excellent.

Keith Jackson!

But honestly, is it that hard to write NOT FOR AIR on the top of a note, or maybe not give it to a broadcaster in the middle of a game? Classic Cubes.

Unless stupid ass headlines like Cubs.com's "J-Hey now, you're a Cubs star, got paid" ruin it, this is going to be fun.

Two years, ten million for Jason Motte from the Rockies. Great signing. That flat fastball will blow 'em away at Coors Field.

Desipio Lounge / Dusty Baker Enrages Washington Thread
November 03, 2015, 12:05:31 AM
Wow, what a fuckup.  Apparently the Nationals so offended Bud Black with their opening low-ball offer that he walked, and it's now expected that Dusty Baker will get the job.  Good luck with that.

If the figure at the center of this film was a fictionalized version of a Silicon Valley visionary it might have been an excellent film. But since Steve Jobs actually existed, it's held to a different standard, and Steve Jobs According to Aaron Sorkin is very frustrating and irritating for anyone who's familiar with Steve's history. While it's true that the antagonism the movie is obsessed with could be found in Steve's interactions with employees, it completely skips the loyalty he inspired, the brilliance of design and ambition that took place within Apple, Jobs' acceptance of Lisa and the fact she had lived under his roof long before the reunion depicted in the film, and the changes in his personality and attitude that took place after marrying Laurene. (In the film he is portrayed as a dickhead bachelor completely ignorant of parenting as late as 1998 even though he spent the majority of that decade married with young kids.) The diabolical scheme to keep NeXT a failing entity to eventually make Apple buy NeXTStep never happened, Pixar (the sale of which to Disney made him a billionaire - the film is credit Apple alone for that) is never mentioned, and the much-emphasized arguments with Woz about recognizing the Apple ][ team never happened either - Woz had already left such active roles behind.

As a movie, it's fine, compelling, and troubling even despite the unbelievable reconciliation at the end. As a biopic, it does a worse job than Ashton Kutcher's "Jobs," which is saying something.

And at that moment, a hatred was born.
