Title: Spartacus
Post by: BH on February 08, 2010, 08:28:10 AM
Since I bitched to comcast, I now get Starz for free. This is a new series, only 3 episodes so far. Lots of good fight scenes, cool matrix like camera shots and lots of hot nude women.

Anyone else watching this show?

I stopped watching it because the blood kept splattering on the inside of my TV screen and that can't be good for it.

I just watched Episode 1.  They really needed to make 300 into a series?

What is it about combining the fight scenes from 300, the story from gladiator and hot nude women that is so bad?

I heard this was a lot like 300.  Some people are even calling it 300: The Series.

Well, I bet if one of the characters took the same initiative as you and asked "why", it'd be a lot better.

Nothing.  Could they just cut out the story and have all fight scenes and secks? It's the same thing as Gladiator.

Records 6 channels at once and can play back four.  Only about $150,000.  Well worth the investment.

I like all the secks and I'll continue to watch for the secks. But the fighting would be a lot more awesome if I could give a shit about the protaganist. He's just been sullen and quiet the entire time. We get it, he's separated from his wife. Meanwhile people are getting their guts splattered all over the place with less than a thought to their actual humanity. Amidst all that pain and barbaric slaughter, we're supposed to care about this dude because? He's awesome at fighting? Oh, wait he keeps getting his ass kicked. He's an excellent lover? He smells good? He shits baby angels?

I keep rooting for one of the other gladiators to just kill Spartacus and the entire series to devolve into a gritty, well-shot soft-core porno. Is that wrong? Should I not be doing that?

To make an analogy: This is sort of like if Chuck were to go off on a rant about Soriano and then someone else misrepresented his position as "Well Soriano sucks so we shouldn't have a leftfielder at all."

Except that's a shit analogy because Chuck would come back and say something ridiculous like "That's exactly what I'm saying."

Somewhat better episode this week. Spartacus showed a bit more emotion besides sadness and rage. We saw a little bit of fear and maybe compassion? Nah. Not as much boobilage in this installment but they more than made up for that with all too graphic acts of violence and dude-on-dude buttsecks. So there's that.

Yeah, what a fight scene. Who would have ever figured that the big match with the giant wouldn't be decided in 1.5 minutes and that the big bastard would get up and thrash the begrudging allies anew? Never saw that coming. Oh, and how about the vaunted Champion of Capua lying on his back, knowing he's fucked and helping Spartacus win by shining the light from the sun into the giant's eyes so that our hero could slay him? Awesome. That big ugly turd has been cut a thousand times and never beaten but his weakness was bright, shiny things and morans kept bringing dirty, rusty helmets in against him. D'ur!

This show is a fucking train wreck but I can't turn away because there are naked women everywhere.

The majority of the exposed breasts that appear on screen belong to ladies who would otherwise have to pay someone to look at them.  The camera does tend to linger on naked men and muscular nude gladiators rolling around on the ground with each other.  What do those things tell us about the target audience?

Remember Sparty's wife? The hottest chick on the show probably and the main character's singular motivation for surviving and enduring all the shit he's been put through for the first half of the season? Yeah, they killed her off. Yeah.

There are only two things that can salvage this show for me at this point. One would be Lucritia's pet getting naked and boned about twice an episode. Two would be Lucritia and that blonde wife of the Sparty's enemy getting intimite in the pool four about 25 minutes of screentime.

A lot less dude on dude would be apprecitated too. Now that Barka sleeps with the rubber ducks, we may get a reprieve on passionate mankissing.

Sparty's wife looked good dying.. She should have been on the show a lot more. Nekid.
My guess is that Sparty will now move on to love the pet, who I hope, loses her clothes.
And that Crixus will return and that will be the new drama. Since he loves the pet. Ghey.

She says she's never used it. It was her safety net.

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/01/vulture_exclusive_lucy_lawless.html

QuoteSuch was the commitment to nudity on the set of Starz's new nakedness-filled drama Spartacus: Blood in the Sand that star Lucy Lawless executed all of her sex scenes without the merkin producers had custom-made for her. When we asked her about it at last night's New York premiere for the show (which debuts on Friday), she still seemed a little unsure about what a merkin actually is: "It's a way of wearing pants when you don't have any hair," she told us.

"I'd never actually seen one, certainly never owned one," Lawless continued. "I have one that's never ever been worn. For all the sex scenes, it has never really been necessary." So what did she do with it? "It's a virgin merkin," she told us. "It's in a frame, they gave it to me at the end of the season. I'm too embarrassed — I don't know what to do with it. I can't show the kids: 'Mummy, what's that?' 'Nooooothing!'" But can't she hang it somewhere? "In the deepest, darkest corners of my closet, maybe."

I'm not sure whether that means that she never showed enough to make it necessary or that you still see it all and that it's all Lucy.

Probably the former.

So far all her humpin' shots have been from the side. The T&A make regular cameos though. I don't think I've seen any female bush. Plenty of shaven wang though.

Then you missed the first episode.  A genuine blonde merkin.

I missed parts of that one. Important parts apparently. I'll have to review.

It seems like if that slave revolt is going to happen it won't be this season. They actually think this damn thing is getting picked up. Anybody heard any talk about that?

Think?  Done.  Delayed due to illness, but done.  It's been Starz biggest! Hit! Ever!

No sechs in this one. Crixus is still a badass in the arena, but his lovelife storyline is annoying. Unless she gets nekkid more.
Battiatus taking names is good to see, hope he kills the child next.
At least before spartacus kills battiatus.

Olithea brought a tasty young thing with her in the blue dress. This episode was actually pretty decent in terms of building some anticipation for the same old shit that's coming up in the final episode. I know exactly what's going to happen yet I'm actually looking forward to it. Is that what it's like to watch CSI or NCIS or something?

No.  It is more like "I Love Lucy".    I know that I am going to regret having posted that.

With only one TV in every household, how did you guys manage any "alone" time when Lucy and Ricky started fucking their slaves?

I hate it when shows and movies leave endings open for the next season/sequel.
I was LOL'ng on my couch at this episode.

*Spoiler Alert*
They literally killed off 90% of the characters on the show.
Simply Awesome. The lack of boobage in this show was noticed, however.
