OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Our large adult son is coming home.

He went to Iowa, grew some facial hair, and came back as Edgy Kyle Schwarber.

He probably wears a Disturbed shirt under his jersey now.

Our sweet mashing boy is growing up.
Bump

Is he fixed yet? Asking for a friend.

Let's wait until he faces better competition than the Trash Sox, but ........... maybe.

His second half splits are 278/366/694. I can live with that.

That's up from .219/.324/.438.

The day before.

How about since his call up from Iowa? Before last night he was slashing .239/.340/.500/.840 since he came back. Including last night it is .280/.368/.680/1.048. Glad Kyle Fucking Schwarber hasn't done enough to avoid getting the Chuck Cherry Picking Awful treatment. Why do you watch sports/ostensibly have a favorite baseball team?

Just remember Chuck's Law: If you exclude every game in which a player played well, the player played badly.  I heard about it in my Statistical Inference class back in grad school, but it hadn't been codified.

Kyle Schwarber, Gold Glove outfielder.  For a moment, at least.

Mike Trout got 6/144.5 three years ago. That seems like it's around where Bryant should land.

That contract is actually, crazily enough, regarded as a bargain for the Angels and well below market value for Trout and Boras wouldn't dream of allowing Bryant to sell himself short like that.

I'd completely forgotten about his involvement with Barnes & Barnes until yesterday.

I'm not sure I ever knew that it was him... he did a pretty incredible job on that video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

The Indians' broadcast team blows. They're boring, not funny, not entertaining, but otherwise they're great.

They said Joe Maddon batting Kyle Schwarber first is to make other teams have to face the "gauntlet of Schwarber, Kris Bryant, and... uh... [awkward silence until subject is changed]."

Then they agreed that closers signing for lots of money is also, somehow, a "gauntlet."

They seem to be completely clueless about any team but the Indians. Struggling to think of anyone's name despite having a lineup card right in front of them to help.

Gerardo Concepcion was introduced as the "next pitcher for the White Sox" (which might be more true than they know).

Finally they're really enjoying showing clips of Roberto Perez hitting two homers in the World Series, which they went on and on about, and Trevor Bauer's finger bleeding, for some reason. Rockheaded jock Tyler Naquin in a truly vapid interview threatened that Edwin Encarnacion will have "something to say" about the Cubs winning the World Series again. Bring it on, you racist caricature-loving dweebs.

I was in my car to catch the sixth inning of Ron Coomer play-by-play, so I'm not sure how less listenable they are.

Why is it wrong for Tyler Naquin to get excited about their free agent signing? Would, "Yeah, we overpaid for him, and we're not going to go back to the Series, so who cares? St. Louis will win the pennant anyway" be better?

I don't know, that it's already assumed the World Series eight months from now will feature the same two teams and the only difference will be Edwin Encarnacion?

This is totally disrespectful to John Jay.

Look, he may have been the first Supreme Court justice and wrote a few Federalist papers, but what has he done lately?

Fitting that it would be you to point this out.

.... I kind of enjoy For The Love of The Game. I will say a good chunk of it is due to Scully narration, but still.

That movie is fucking terrible.

Something something Tonk loves Kevin Costner.

Well, it does need more Dane Cook, but Kevin Costner is very watchable.  I positive this film.

if only the soundtrack were by Bon...nope...never mind.  Enough is enough.

You're right.  Bon Iver would certainly bring that movie the soundtrack it deserves.

Is there anywhere that tracks postseason WAR? Just curious what the leaderboard looked like for this year.

http://darowski.com/hall-of-wwar/about/

QuoteSince there is no postseason WAR, how can we capture postseason value? We can use Win Probability Added (WPA), which measures a player's contribution to his team's victory. Add up his WPA and you have an estimate of the number of wins he was directly responsible for.

A few Cubs WPA's for the 2016 postseason (from Fangraphs)

Schwarber 1.46
Russell 0.83
Rizzo 0.53
Bryant 0.35
Contreras 0.26
Zobrist 0.20
Baez 0.18
Ross -0.10
Heyward -0.26
Fowler -0.36

Lester 0.99
Hendricks 0.55
Montgomery 0.27
Arrieta 0.26
Chapman 0.17
Edwards 0.00
Lackey -0.23

... as much as I really want the Cub's to finish this in four games, there is a part of me that doesn't want it to end and for it to go on as long as possible.

I know, I suck.

In hindsight, a seven-game, drama-filled series would probably make for amazing memories.

From where I sit right now, I want a stress-free coronation.

I feel like this should be bumped.

I stand by this.

As you should.  The memories are better than any of us could have hoped for.

You all realize how many pitches he threw, right? Dude just didn't have anything left in the tank. He was an integral part of the Cubs getting to this point. Relax and enjoy the CHAMMENSHIP.
