Title: Dusty Baker Enrages Washington Thread
Post by: Saul Goodman on November 03, 2015, 12:05:31 AM
Wow, what a fuckup (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/nationals-manager-dusty-baker-bud-black-unresolved.html).  Apparently the Nationals so offended Bud Black with their opening low-ball offer that he walked, and it's now expected that Dusty Baker will get the job.  Good luck with that.

When did Mike McCaskey take over the Nats?

Only because neither the Mets nor Cardinals hired him?

The Mets and Cardinals are doing just fine with their on-field management.

Kind of reminds me of when the Lions signed Matt Millen to run their operations.  I distinctly recall thinking at the time, "Well, it's nice to know we won't have to worry about the Lions for a while".  At the risk of being overly glib--the Nationals are still really good-- I feel positive at least about Dusty's ability to get in the way just enough to matter.

He'll get more out of the roster than Matt Williams did, but yeah it's nice to know that next year if the Cubs make the playoffs a crucial game might come down to Joe Maddon having to outsmart either Dusty or Matheny. I like our odds there.

Steven Strasburg just grabbed his elbow and doesn't know why.

Washington's first offer to Black: 1 year, $1.6M (https://mobile.twitter.com/ScottMillerBbl/status/661429827124068353). That's ice cold. I don't even care that much about Bud Black but that's some bullshit.

Wonder if there was any pressure from MLB to hire a minority? This article (http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2015/10/27/mlb-has-no-black-managers-following-mcclendons-dismissal/74667814/) had gotten some play.

Baseball is always better when Dusty Baker is involved. Unless he's on your team, that is.

If that's the case, the Nationals would be better off hiring literally any other guy listed in that article than Baker.

Bump for the Nats' scooping up Darren in the draft (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2017/06/14/nationals-draft-dustys-son-darren-baker-in-27th-round/).
