Samardzija: ERA+: 92. FIP: 3.71. WHIP: 1.246.  Yeah, that's going to get him $100 million.

Wait, are you implying  that a 3.71 FIP and 1.25 WHIP are bad?

I think the question is  whether it would be worth a $100 million contract?

It's not too far out of line with his last three years as a starter (3.50 FIP and 1.21 WHIP). It's hard to predict free agent contracts, but another season like that probably would get him pretty close to $100 million, especially if his ERA normalizes a bit to match his peripherals.

He's a year older than Cueto, Zimmermann and Price (who will all get bigger contracts), but he also has less mileage on his arm and a pretty clean injury history.

And if he doesn't get anywhere near $100 million, I sure hope the Cubs are the team signing him.

Well Jon Lester has a career whip of 1.277 and a career FIP of 3.58 and he got $155 million, so I'm going with....yes, yes it is.

Jon Lester is a PROVEN WINNER. Regardless of what you think about team accomplishments that kind of crap gets people paid.

I want nothing to do with that guy ever again. Well, Bryant and Rizzo can tee off him 300 times per year, I suppose.

He's also a really good pitcher and I kinda think Snork is a pretty good pitcher and if he came back to the Cubs for 4 years and 80 million or whatever I'd be both pretty happy with it and also happy that it will apparently piss off Chuck to no end.

I can't fully blame you. But he's still appealing because of the reasons I mentioned earlier.

For all of talk of waiting around to grab a FA pitcher, I'm not all that pumped about the Cubs diving into that market. Price is going to get a ridiculous contract, like 8 years and $225 million or something, and the idea of having almost $400 million tied up between two aging pitchers is terrifying. Zimmermann has already had TJS and his velo is weirdly down this year. Cueto has a pretty checkered injury history and has to go at max effort all the time because he's 5-foot-8 or whatever, so I don't like his odds of holding up over a 5 or 6 year contract.

TL;DR, this is why I'm OK trading prospects for Hamels and his short, reasonable deal.

Or Kazmir.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.

All that AND because you really need to use the prospects for something. They won't all make it and they don't have positions for all of them.

I'll take Samardzija back on a good deal in a heartbeat.
I can't believe I even know these people. I'm ashamed of my internet life.

Me too - slot him at number 3 behind Lester and Arrieta.  Lovely job.

I'm not quite sure what he's done to upset Internet Chuck so badly.

I think, and lord knows I hate to travel down the Chuckian Path too far, the reasons I've seen for hating Snork are as listed:

1)Notre Dame

2)He seemed rather upset with all of the losing and was hesitant to sign an extension, so I guess we hate him like we hate all of the other people too short-sighted to see the plan, even though in the long run we may end up with him back on the team whilst pitching in front of Addison Russell as a reward for him not signing that extension.

3)Some people never quite bought into him being good because of how shitty he was for those first few years?

4)Some people hate the Cubs fans who bitched and moaned about trading him so much that they now hope Snork sucks so as to have a reason to point and say "see!" to those Cubs fans.

5)He's now a White Sox player and thus a "trader" as our friends in Missourah would say.

I don't know specifically which of these reasons applies to Chuck, probably a combination of several. All of them are fairly stupid, though.

Not 1. I'd forgotten 2 (I was glad when he turned them down). A lot of 3. Not 4.

I'd rather see the dollars spent elsewhere.
