Needs something big...

But seriously, Hughes solo. The poll should be "Who gets to call the game during Pat's fifth inning shit?"

Voting late '90s R. Kelly and an early '20s Javier Baez.

I'm fine with Grace.  I'm sure he'd love a chance to move back to Lincoln Park and not have to worry about driving to work.  Of course I'm always partial to DAY VOTTO but I'm pretty sure his best chance was when he lost out to Moreland.  I'll be driven to PANKRAGE if it's Hollandsowrth or DeRosa (I'm not even considering that muppet Theriot as a serious contender).

If they decide they're going to hire Grace, wouldn't he insist on the TV job?  Would he prefer a TV job elsewhere over the Cubs' radio job?  And aside from what Grace would want, wouldn't the Cubs rather pair him with Len anyway for what I assume he'd be making?

If he chose the radio gig, he could still come in to work relatively shit-faced and/or hungover and only acute listeners would be able to pick up on it.

I don't follow this stuff as closely as you all do and assumed DeRosa and Hollandsworth were comedic choices. Are they actually being considered? Am I mistaking this Pankpost for sincerity? Is that still a fool's errand here?

All the big names in new media do that and it drives me fucking insane - to the point where if anyone calls people out on it I auto RT it. I've learned that tweeting about how shitty manual RTs are only gets a bunch of assholes to manually RT your comment. It's *so* hilarious.

Anyway, yes Eli is right - that is the worst practice on twitter and most SBN bigwigs do it.

I think there was a grace period after the RT button came out, since some people didn't like it at first. But we're long past that and it's pretty obvious why people do it now.

I'm not meaning to go all Darren Rovell (or whoever that Sports on Earth guy was last week) and have ironclad rules for Twitter, because it's Twitter and who really cares. But the really transparent self-serving stuff just bothers me.

No, but seriously, folks...

Today I learned that there are people out there actively promoting the manual retweet as a best practice brand builder...

http://youtoocanbeaguru.wordpress.com/2013/03/18/why-i-dont-use-twitters-retweet-button/

QuoteSure, maybe I lose credibility in your eyes because I don't have an MBA in Marketing but I have been tweeting since 2007, in the BRTB days (before retweet button).

...

It's bad for branding.

Yes, I said it.  When you go to my profile, all you see is my avatar/logo/face. Why would I want to advertise someone else's twitter in my feed?  Why am I working hard to build my business, spread my message, strengthen my credibility if I'm just going to mirror back tweets from twenty other people?

Why should I be compelled to advertise someone else's Twitter feed when I'm the one sharing their content with my followers? #Branding

QuoteIt gives you an opportunity to comment.

I can't help it, I prefer the comment at the front of the Tweet.  This also can serve as the start of a conversation.

Remember, Twitter is about the conversation, not just pressing buttons.  You do want to talk to people, right?

In this tweet, I added "So true" to the front of the RT of @24Intl's tweet...

And they wrote back thank you and what-have-you.

Nothing about that surprises me. That's exactly what they're doing. Expanding their brand and putting their face out front. I get it but people who fall for it are fucking insane. Twitter is an echo chamber as is - all of these people just RT the same dudes with their face on it.

I should compile a list of the worst offenders.

Holy shit

That sure was a lot of words to say Ricketts = businessman. Tell me more about this Great CubsTalk War, please.

It was a lot of fighting about which Cubs site was better. It was weird. In retaliation, some people from CubsTalk started posting tranny porn on the board here and, I believe, TJ Brown had to call Andy at work to remove it. And we were all like, "You have Andy Dolan's phone number?!"

Great days in Desipio History.

I'm so glad I'm not on the Twitters

Seriously. Then our nonstop flannj-bashing would have to stop.

It's about time you guys come around on how annoying I think he is.  And there's nothing I like more than a good bashing of social media/PR/"branding" drones.  What's the background on the 'gay pornography expert,' though?  If I ever knew, I've forgotten.

I was just kidding with the name. I mean the incident is real but Brett's a good guy and his site is as thorough as it gets.

Slaky's basically right. The guy has the most useful Cubs blog out there and I appreciate having a good place to go for info. As mentioned, he's a shameless self-promoter on Twitter and that's annoying, so I'll give you that. Only loosely related, he's also followed/unfollowed me on Twitter no less than seven times which I can't really blame him for (the unfollowing, that is). The behavior is a bit weird though.

I concede he covers almost everything, but I just find his writing style, voice, tone, whatever you want to call it, annoying.  Things like this (http://www.desipio.com/?p=4407) are annoying too, I guess, but I just don't like reading him.  Still though, he's unquestionably streets ahead of Yellon, so, you know, at least he's offering a cup of ice water to people in hell and stuff.

As Dita Von Teese once said (and who doesn't quote Marilyn Manson's former slampiece in times like this?), "You can be the juiciest peach in the world, and still find someone who doesn't like peaches." - you can't please everyone.

Brett Taylor is a juicy peach who's just as sexy as Dita Von Teese. Try to keep up.

Was he, too, run over by Mayor Quimby's drunken brother Clovis?
