It's not looking good for Jake Peavy. (http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/07/soxs-peavy-to-have-surgery-miss-rest-of-season.html)
Quote
Peavy, who said the surgery would be performed Wednesday at Rush Presbyterian hospital in Chicago, vowed to pitch again.

"I hope to be up and throwing by spring training," Peavy said. "My future is not in jeopardy."

Nothing that few major-league pitchers have sustained this kind of injury, Peavy said,  "It's kind of uncharted territory. ... I guess I'm a guinea pig."

I don't care if it makes me sound like a common Yellon, I'd be happy if Mark Prior came back and pitched effectively in the majors.  I know it's not happening, but I'm still dreaming.

If he doesn't come back and win a Cy Young and World Series for the Cubs I'm going to be depressed.

"According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, the Orioles have interest in Mark Prior.

The O's sent scout Mark Ralston to watch Prior throw for major league teams on June 30, but they believe that he prefers to remain on the West Coast. That may be true, but he can hardly afford to pick and choose his next opportunity given the fact that he hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2006."

Go figure.

Gotta love Andy MacPhail, resurrecting one dead Cub after another.

1) The Cubs are in the Major Leagues.
2) Their checks clear.
3) Negotiating something "fair" with the Cubs' front office seems to be easier done than said.

Hey it was only yesterday (4 years ago in 13 days) that he was no-hitting the Mets (http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN200607260.shtml). Of course, he lasted only 5 2/3 because his fingers were tired. (http://www.desipio.com/?p=1188)

As much of a puss as Prior was, I always felt that he was more unlucky than anything.  Getting lined up by Hawpe and the Giles baserunning thing.  I still remember when he beaned Barry Bonds and didn't back down.  That was badass.  I think it was in San Francisco, too.

Anyway, my point is that I wouldn't hate them taking a chance on Prior in the same way that I wouldn't mind the Cubs bringing Kerry Wood back.  It's irrational and probably dumb, but I just wanted to kiss liked him.

If memory serves he hit Bonds with a slider in the foot and since Barroid is the biggest prick in baseball, he took a couple of steps toward prior and pointed at him. Prior waved his gove at bonds and mouthed "come on" while 50 people rushed in btween them. Badass.

But since it's 2010 and we're all drunk it went down like this:

Bonds had been talking shit all series on TV and in the papers about how he didn't respect the Cubs and how Dusty used to make him sit on Sundays when he really wanted to help the team. So he wanted to show the Cubs and Dusty how strong and durable he was. So he hit two home runs the night before and sprinted around the bases full speed like Bobby Hill. Head down just running. Dusty didn't like it so he ordered Sean Estes to plunk him. But Estes got cold feet and just threw behind him. This got Bonds even madder and he pointed his bat at Dusty and called him a n*gger, which really confused Dusty.

In the postgame that night Bonds was laughing at how he'd shown Dusty up and that the Cubs were a joke and he bet his whole fleet of cars that the Giants would win a World Series before they did.

So the next day Prior had enough and when his two-strike slider ricochetted off Barroid's shoe top, Barroid threw his bat down in anger and screamed, "YOU GOD DAMN GUTLESS FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!!" which really confused Prior. He mouthed, "Come on," and 50 people rushed in to separate the two.

The ERAs of Cub starters are 4.61, 4.08, 3.61, 3.45 and 3.16.  He can and would suck worse than most of those guys.

As much of a puss as Prior was, I always felt that he was more unlucky than anything.  Getting lined up by Hawpe and the Giles baserunning thing drafted by a shitstain organization like the Chicago Cubs, with their backwards methods of managing pitching talent, resulting in one destroyed arm after another.  I still remember when he beaned Barry Bonds and didn't back down.  That was badass.  I think it was in San Francisco, too.

Okay, I'll bite.  Why, exactly, do you think he's a cunt?  When they finally opened him up, his shoulder apparently looked like roast beef.  I'm not saying he'd be better than any of their starters right now, but, yes, I'd like to see the Cubs take a flyer on him.  And now I'd like it doubly so knowing that it would piss you off.

I'm on board the FMP stance. He's probably not a huge pussy but I don't give a shit. I'm not trying to be his friend or his image bodyguard. He was a Cub with more promise than any Cub ever and he burned out while giving us a major tease. He didn't bother to go the Brien Taylor route and just never, ever prove his talent. He dominated the league. Then - nothing.

So fuck him. Good news for Mark is he doesn't have to worry about ditching any autograph signings now that he's a total has been.

Oh and boofuckinghoo he left a goddamn signing early the day before making his first start off of the DL. What a pussyshit, manufactued reason to hate a guy. THINK ABOUT THE POOR EBAYERS WHO'S SIGNED ROOKIE CARD WILL THEY SELL FOR $20 NOW.

We're supposed to like him because he pitched his ass off for 3 months?

Just clarifying.

Or at least appreciate the key role he played in (for better or worse) the greatest moment(s) we've seen as Cubs fans in the past two decades.

(You know, before the constant slow motion barrage of towel drills to our nuts.)

If it wasn't for Mark Prior Dusty Baker would not have had the opportunity to fuck up a 3-2 NLCS lead with two home games to close it out.

I'm on board the FMP stance. He's probably not a huge pussy but I don't give a shit. I'm not trying to be his friend or his image bodyguard. He was a Cub with more promise than any Cub ever and he burned out while giving us a major tease. everything he had during the 2003 stretch/postseason, pitching his absolute ass off for 3 months.  He didn't bother to go the Brien Taylor route and just never, ever prove his talent. He dominated the league. Then - nothing.

He pitched his shoulder ass off for about 4 years, if that's any better to you.

I just didn't like his body language or his facial expressions. He never looked at the pictures on the sidelines with the coaches after he gave up 450-foot missiles.

The fact is, Mark Prior was a fucking man in '03 and '04.  I don't even give a shit that he did steroids.  That fucker was the best pitcher in the NL those two years.  I can as bitter as anyone about those two years, but Mark Prior was not the problem.

If you want to hate him for getting hurt, fine.  I think he can piss off as far as I'm concerned.  But to just simply deny his awesomeness is as dumb as hating Greg Maddux because he got literally shit on by Larry Himes.

Watching Prior pitch in '04 was excruciating.  How many games did he leave early because he hurt himself again?

I'm with you otherwise, Oleg.  Prior in '03 was awe-inspiring.  Truly amazing.  But I think I'd rather never own a Porsche than to drive one for a week, only to see it totaled and towed away.

Let's not forget the big picture: More than half of us believe a 50-something pothead, a one-armed left-hander (whose one arm is his right hand) or a dead guy have a better chance pitching again in the big leagues than Prior or Peavy.

Eric Show will rise from the dead and drink the blood from Andre Dawson's mustache. Not only will be pitch again - he'll probably kill himself with another cocaine cocktail.

Didn't know he was a member of the John Birch society though. That makes his whole life that much funnier.

When the Cubs announced that Dempster was being moved from relief to the rotation and Lieber was being switched to the bullpen, many Desipiots came here to break the news without knowing that others had already done so.  Thus when you announce news that everyone already knows, it's Dempster Rotation Lieber Pen.

Anyone with more time here than me, feel free to correct or modify.

I am going to bookmark this page.  Thanks.

That, except replace "Desipio" with "SBox."

That's probably sufficient.

Much more succinct.
