Are you sure five isn't actually the number of fans a group gets when you starting hating them for being popular?

I was at a concert with thousands of people on Saturday so your logic is poo.

How was soundgarden? I've heard sound at the UIC sucks.

The sound for Mars Volta wasn't great at all. In fact it was really bad. I think they would have been fantastic had the sound been good.

Soundgarden sounded fantastic. Though they were so goddamn loud my ears were ringing for 24 hours. In fact I think they're still a little fucked up. But it was easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. Cameron is a completely different drummer than he is with Pearl Jam and I mean that as the highest praise. Cornell hasn't lost a single thing in his voice and Thayil just rules. They played 23 songs and were heavy as hell. Played almost all old stuff. Only three songs from their last album. Tons of pre-Superunknown stuff.

I didn't get to hear two songs I really wanted them to play (Hands All Over, Loud Love) but couldn't have been more impressed. They're also working on a new album and will return to the road to support it.

They were one of my favorites, I lost interest after hearing Cornell's craptastic lyrics in Audioslave. He was always an incredible singer.
Hopefully he can find his songwriting days of yesteryear.  I'm still holding out for a Temple of the Dog reunion. Or for cornell and jerry cantrell to get together like they did on Sap. That was magic stuff.

I saw AIC when they reformed and thought the new guy did a great job. They put out a really good album all things considered. I don't know if Soundgarden's new album will be good. If they continue in the trend before they split it would be pretty meh. If their live show is any indication though, they're probably going to go heavy which would be excellent.

If Pearl Jam, AIC and Soundgarden could do some kind of monster tour that would be incredible.

Palladia is recently showing a full hour of Soundgarden playing at Lollapalooza. All the songs you'd expect are on it.
Really cool all the footage on palladia with chicago in the backdrop.

Soundgarden criticism below, I'll start this by saying soundgarden was one of my favorite bands, just could live without a few things.
Every time I've seen them live, or even on this concert, Cornell's voice is often off key.
I wish he wasn't pushing as hard live to make it sound just like the studio, live he often can't pull it off.
I think he gets too much credit as being a great singer.

I've also always thought Kim Thayil was one of the most overindulgent soloists I've ever heard.
There is never a melody to his solos, he just plays as many notes as he can in a short period, then goes back to the song.
Also regarded as a great lead guitar player, I don't get it.

Agree on your Matt Cameron thoughts, the guy is ridiculous as a heavy band drummer.
One of the best drummers in a rock band of all time.
Anything he does in pearl jam is boring by comparison.

I think Cornell sounded great if you were at the show. Maybe on replay it doesn't sound as perfect. I think his performance on Slaves and Bulldozers is one of the best vocal performances to exist on record.

I totally agree with you on Cameron - his stint in Pearl Jam has made me think he's not that great because he's not Dave Abbruzzese. Yet he's completely different with Soundgarden and blew me away. Pearl Jam live is great but they sound older. Their songs have changed and their tempo has changed. Their old shows, by comparison, are some of the most energetic shows around. They're great in a different way. Soundgarden sounded like they did 25 years ago. They didn't water down the heavy stuff, not even a drop.

Bump. Just picked up Cornell's acoustic live disc "Songbook", I think the acoustic format works great with his voice.. maybe without the band and with just a guitar he doesn't scream as much... highly recommend checking it out, for any soundgarden fans. Good stuff.

"The Smile Sessions" - the 5-disk set (with a nice book, vinyl album & singles) might be a bit much for anyone who isn't a common ForkBort, but there's a 2-disc set as well.

Fuck Mike Love.

Picked up a bunch of new shit:

Deftones, Foals, The National, Circa Survive, Broken Social Scene, LCD Soundsystem, Minus the Bear and The Radio Dept.

I have only really listened to Circa Survive so far and I like what I hear quite a bit.

Anyone hear any of these yet?

Just acquired Minus the Bear.

And I just got into The Lonely Forest

Minus the Bear and Lonely Forest are a couple indie groups. Good tunage. I can't say shit like "great mixture of keys" or "genius arrangements" or other musical shit, because that's beyond my scope of knowledge, but I like them both. They have a good sound, and are fun to listen to.

Minus has been around for quite a while apparently, and their last album made it to #49 on Billboard.

Petal, that's a bluegrass group. They're like the Radiohead of bluegrass (thats false, actually)
