OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

It's my bizarro world.

Shouldn't you be hitting the shit out of the ball then?

I'm kidding.  In seriousness, based only on the psp version, I think that the whole
super slow progression of RTTS is one of its charm, but in practice it's just too
slow to keep my attention.  With the psp version there is just so much loading and
stuff in between the action, how much filler is there between ABs/fielding events
on the ps3?

These people are paid to write and talk about sports.

I really wonder what the local sports writers/tv douches make, because I really don't
think it's very much.  I envision the jobs as inconvenient hours with mediocre pay and
full of dealing with awful people and even more awful network suits.  There's a lot of
jobs that sound idyllic, but in actuality I would never trade my current soulless job for
(I'm not BCing here, my current job is a good situation, but it's not watching and
discussing sports.)

I just finished reading (well, listening to anyways) a book about the Brooklyn Dodgers
for no apparent reason because I don't like the Dodgers and I hate New Yorkers
talking about themselves in their too-ignorant-to-be-solipsistic inanity, but I picked it
up over the winter when I'm weak for anything baseball related.  Anyways, the real
interesting thing to me was all these fans being interviewed just complained about
how once blacks started going to the games the fans couldn't appreciate the
Dodger's Symphony they had playing between innings or how much they loved
Hank Greenberg because he was Jewish.  And that's when I realized that the game
has always had the same idiot fans and that there never was a golden era of baseball,
unless it was in the 1800s and then who gives a fuck because no one knows anything
about it.

And, well, I'll say I because I'd hate to start presuming for everyone with a we, but I
think I've fallen too far into the counter culture rage against the idiots all I am is a rat
in a cubicle thing and I'm letting my hatred of people who don't actually enjoy
_baseball_ ruin my ability to enjoy it myself.

Fuck that all, this year I'm enjoying baseball.  I'm leaving regressing to the mean, and
the fact that it's almost always a bad idea to bunt or steal, and the idea that the idea
of clutch hitting is a myth at home and I'm going to cheer on my favorites and clap for
Silva if he manages to get through an inning without shitting himself and enjoy the games
they win and enjoy exciting plays, and maybe even make an occasional excuse when
they lose.  I'm going to believe in hot streaks (but never players being due for a hit,
because that one is just dumb) and when it's close and late I hope to fuck that Ramirez
is at the plate.  I'm going to go ahead and believe they can win the Central.

I'm still not singing the guest conducted 7th inning stretch.

I have real hope that Chad Tracy can be the next Ron Coomer.

I just hope he gets about 100 PAs.  Just enough to give Ram and Lee 10 games rest and
some pinch hitting.

Sam Fuld brings the GRIT which is completely worthless. I don't understand how he's considered a major league baseball player.

I hate me the hell out of the SAM FULD crowd, but I do think players like him have
a place in an organization.  He's a basically free guy you can toss in the minors and
have available to bring up as a 4th/5th outfielder if you have some injuries and he
isn't a complete and total zero.  You don't have to trade for a shitty guy and absorb
salary (Ryan Freel springs to mind) to not be good, you have that guy ready in house.

Sure, it would be good to real talent down there to bring up, but even just having
mediocre talent at the AA(A) level is a good start.  That's one of the depressing things
about the Cubs farm system.  Not only have they been so bad at acquiring and
developing elite talent, they have also been terrible at just developing some mediocre
players to keep around for depth.

the point is that Colvin has a BB% of somewhere close to 5% while his K% is somewhere near 15-18%.

Yeah, taking his total minor league average for walks is some kind of proof that he will totally suck.

He'll probably not be that good.  But maybe the added mass will help a lot.  Either way, it's a hell
of a lot more complicated than walk and k rates.

The Bears should go with Idonije & Brown and cut their losses with Anderson already.

For me, this boils down to what they can get for Brown.  If they dump him in a trade or
release him, then it's idiocy.  However, the Bears have tons of needs and if they can
address more pressing things moving Brown then I can't complain much.

Kaplan didn't seem so happy about doing two hour postgames after every game, but invited us to do one with him around the All-Star Break.

It seemed like Kaplan was embarrassed by the callers being such retards.  But maybe
he was just sad.

Looking at his Faggraphs UZR, it looks like he's just below average in 41 games.

UZR is generally considered somewhere around 3 times as noisy as most hitting stats.
You really want at least 3 year averages of UZR before you start to make evaluations
of it, which is one of it's main criticisms.  Someone's UZR for 40 partial games is like
looking at their hitting over 20-40 ABs, it just doesn't mean much.

Not that I want Millar but have the Cubs tried out Baker at 3rd? I ask because I heard that he was supposed to be 2010's DeRosa and if so, any indications on if he's any good?

Do you ever actually watch or follow the actual Chicago Cubs baseball team?

Is this a fake Muskbag question?

I mean, if you watched or followed the Cubs you'd remember that Baker played third a
decent amount last season and has been playing there some in spring training and in
general is considered a reasonable backup able to handle the position.  Hell, if you just
managed to pull up baseball-reference you would see he's played a decent amount of
third over his career and is at least decent at it.

Wasn't excited about typing FTW so there was time to relax and actually make the correct modifications to the quote'd

There's a Kmart in Yorktown?

Turns out I can't read.  Carry on.

Is this pretty accurate? I would assume so. Is there more information that might be pertinent to them? I know it's probably been mentioned/discussed to death, but what about the claims about the premiums? (And I'll accept a link to a previous post I obviously didn't read)

Starting this year, there will be business credits for insurance premiums, so small businesses (at
least in the short term) should save money from this as far as I understand it.
