This show is superb. I'm glad the TNT picked it up.

This is a show that I really want to watch but always forget to DVR. Thanks to you, JD, I'm making the extra effort to put a reminder in my phone so that I don't forget to search it this afternoon. You have done a great service today.

You might want to DVR last season too. Get that time machine going.

Isn't this season on TNT the same as last season that was on NBC or whatever channel it was on? I was under the impression it was a rebroadcast and they are about to roll out some new episodes soon.

You are right.
Great first episode for season 2. Ryan Atwood is an awful actor, though. And I'd really like to bang that female cop. (not the morgan one)
This show is terrific, y'all!

After last week's episode I'm super duper excited for this week's, especially after the Wall Street Journal's raving review

I hadn't seen any of the first season, but I started DVRing the new ones on TNT. I finally caught up on the first two episodes last night and holy crap, this show is pretty damn solid. I really like the chick cop. I'm glad I watch this show.
Holee crap...you guys still watching this? You need to be. It's pretty daggum good.

I is.
I didn't know Shawn Hatosy could act. This show is outstanding.
Bump. It's back.

This show remains fucking awesome.
"We kick ass until we smell shit."
And a "227" reunion!
Alright. I agree that it is fun to watch. However, after you watch it, how do you feel about police in general?

First off, it's just a television show. But, if I were to take any real world feelings from Southland, it's that I at least can see some of the shit they deal with and you can almost understand their bad attitude at times. Take Sammy for instance. Normally, if you take the things he says to the public out of context you have a raging asshole cop. But, at least the show provides his character with reasons, legitimate ones, to be a raging asshole cop.
Whether the writers intended that or not, it at least shows their side of the crosses they bear.
Sammy is awesome.

Pretty okay with them.
I found it interesting that they explained the brooding nature of one of the characters by making him a closeted homosexual. I wonder if he told his band of brothers about that.

Is he closeted? He sleeps with dudes.
I guess I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
I may be mistaken, but his brethren on the LAPD are apparently not aware that he is gay. Thus the final scene where he stands outside the bar listening to the guys inside sing his praises. Would they do so if they knew that he was gay?

In real life or in the show?

Last night we were treated to very fine acting when Cooper tries to rehabilitate his old field training officer from alcohol addiction. This show interrupts great action scenes only with equally great dramatic scenes.
Holy shit

I agree. Powerful episode. Next week is going to be equally good.
After a strong finish, it's officially done: http://tvline.com/2013/05/10/southland-cancelled-tnt/

If you would've told me way back when that I'd dig so much a show that starred Shaun Hatosy, the kid from The OC, and the poetry guy from Grosse Point Blank, I'd have called you crazy.
