Steve Lyons: Irreverent, has quite a bit of on-air experience. Downside: no connection to the Cubs, and some fans would be turned off by the fact that he's a former White Sox player. Chance of hire: 20%

Does anybody seriously think that there'd be backlash to hiring someone who used to play for the White Sox?  That's so fucking retarded.

Eh, I'm pretty sure there'd be some meatball backlash somewhere.  But the backlash over a Lyons hire would probably be related to his terribleness.

Between 1990 and 2004--with 2000 and 2001 excepted--the Cubs color analysts for both radio and TV were both Ex-White Sox players.

And Harry was an ex Sox announcer too.

And there was backlash.  From Milo Hamilton.

Anyway, I don't think there'd be a backlash due to his history with the White Sox but more over him not having any ties to the Cubs (other than a brief spring training stint).

So were Jack Brickhouse, Bob Elson, Vince Lloyd, Lloyd Petit, and Milo himself. Moral of the story: Get ready for the Hawk. Not the Hall of Famer, or the corporate attorney, but the redneck who thinks he invented the batting glove.

I think there is a better chance that I would be named the Cubs color man than Harrelson.  Of course, I would be better at it than him also (I suck but I know that one part of the job description of an announcer is to announce (even when somthing happens on the field that you dont like)).

That wasn't backlash, that was butthurt. Jack Brickhouse basically passed the torch to Milo on the air. Then Harry got fired by the Sox. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Pete LaCock's got a Q&A on fangraphs.  Al Yellon commented.  You can reply to his comment.

I wrote up some of the real history behind LaCock's stories. The stories are entertaining. Some of them are even sort of true.

He is seriously the worst.

Good on ya, JD.  My only quibble with the balnoey comment is that I'da spelled it balogna.
Just a sloppy, undisciplined team.  Garbage.
