This is the year that I become that guy whose favorite team is just fucking rolling everybody and you learn to hate that guy and hate his team and root like hell for their demise, which never comes. I've wanted to be that guy my whole life. So this is big for me. Thanks for sharing it with me.

It's not going to work out the way you think it's going to work out. Just wait until, somewhere buried on the Internet sports section, there's an AP blurb about how Robbie Hummel glued his vagina shut trying to fuck a container of Elmer's and is out for the year with sepsis.
That shit is going to make this thread worth fighting for.

I don't really want all that much attention, I just find it funny when someone else posts something that I normally would say. If I were seeking attention, I would have more than the 1.2 posts per day.
Turning to the hoops: If Brandon Paul keeps this up, this Illini team could be much better than expected. And most had them pegged as a Top 30 team coming in...
(ALERT... ALERT...) I just hope the Illini will not begin to under-achieve when they start over-achieving.
Purdue prevailed over #9 Tennessee tonight in the finals of the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. This marks the first time in school history in which a team with high expectations didn't immediately get its pants pulled down against a really good team in the early going. Last year Duke and Oklahoma did the pantsing in West Lafayette and the preseason NIT Finals. But this game, this team was different tonight. Painter played the shit out of his bench and the team stayed right in it the entire way. Johnson was in foul trouble and Hummel was off from the field the entire game. Yet they had just enough to finish off a very game Tennesee squad.
Name your favorite team. Tennessee would wax them in a neutral court matchup. Unless you root for, I don't know, the Lakers or something. That would make you a huge douche.

Purdue?
I rooted for Purdue against the Volunteers, not only for Big Ten pride but because that scumbag Bruce Pearl deserves to lose every single game he coaches in for the rest of his life.
I know that there was plenty of hand-wringing over Lewis Jackson's injury, but judging from the Tennessee game I think the Boilermakers have enough depth to not be hurt too much by that situation.
Good day for the Big Ten today with Purdue and Wisconsin getting nice OOC wins. Illinois is back in action tonight on ESPNU against Wofford. Now by contractual obligation I need to say something about letting it all play out.

Keady's teams were usually picked to finish 5-7th in the Big Ten, then won the thing and got pantsed later. It was a bit less embarrassing that way.

When it comes to coaching, Weber is fine with me as long as he remembers not to start coaching when Illinois has a lead late in games. For example, the Weber prevent offense scored 3 points in the last 6 minutes of last year's game at Penn State...

I always enjoyed it when Ron Hunter stomped his way into town.
So, Illinois sucks? No team that has Jeff Jordan playing significant minutes at the end of a close game can be considered good. Not sure if I was the only idito who wasted my time on some of the online stream at that hooptv.abortion site, but the only thing worse than the games were the production values.
What a nut-stomping year of sports. Bring on 2010 already.

Were you mad at the Vikings yesterday for daring to expose how shitty the Bears are? My final and most important question is, "Why the fuck do I read your posts?"
You might be half-right but Pearl is a piece of shit.
No doubt. But I want to know why
BC thinks he's a piece of shit, because I bet it's hilarious.

Was recording Deion Thomas over the phone without telling him he was being recorded legal?
And maybe BC should be more pissed that Lou Henson was a moron for having a shitty, cheating assistant coach like Jimmy Collins on his staff.

Right. Let's just leave it at everyone involved is probably scum. It's easier to paint with a broad brush. And it's way more fun to hate Bruce Pearl than to like him. Look at the guy...he oozes sleaze.

According to Wikipedia, it was in Iowa.
Purdue trails Wake Forest by a deuce at the half. They are 0-8 from 3-pt range. My nuts are in my esphogus. None of this is particularly comfortable for me right now. More wine, please.

The Boilers get it together and drop Wake by 11. I think they hit one three all night. Blue Collar, thou art lantern-jawed and wield a wicked sledge hammer.
I usually cringe when they do this "Big Ten gets mushroomstamped by the ACC--aka the SEC of hoops" thing every year but was pleasantly surprised to hear that Northwestern beat NC State. I'm thinking NC State may be awful, no? And is it also possible the Big Ten might not blow as badly in basketball as they currently do in foosball?

NC State was 5-0 (the third (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=293310087) straight (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=293320066) undefeated (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=293350152) team the Wildcats have toppled), but their schedule hadn't been very tough. Their closest game was against Auburn (4-3) and they escaped 60-58.
Meanwhile, NU (6-1) has won 5 straight after losing to then-#10 Butler on Nov 18. PG "Juice" Thompson (17.4 ppg, 2.7 apg), John Shurna (15.3 ppg, 3.1 apg), Jeremy Nash (9.0 ppg, 4.0 apg) and freshman sharpshooter Alex Marcotullio (7.0 ppg, 50% 3P) have been leading the way for a team averaging 67.6 ppg. Opponents are averaging 59 against the Wildcats defense.
The Big Ten has never won the annual challenge with the ACC, losing the series in all 10 seasons. This year, the series is tied 3-3 with these games on tap for this evening:
Illinois at 18 Clemson
7:15pm ET
Minnesota at Miami (FL)
7:30pm ET
Boston Coll. at Michigan
7:30pm ET
6 Duke at Wisconsin
9:15pm ET
21 Florida St at 15 Ohio St
9:30pm ET
The Big Ten is clearly more competitive on the hardcourt than on the gridiron. How much so remains to be seen. Tonight we can see how it all plays out.
For the hell of it:
Illinois at 18 Clemson
7:15pm ET (5)
Minnesota at Miami (FL)
7:30pm ET (4)

Sounds about right. Let's hope the Big Ten can win one for once.
Backtracking for a moment... Recording phone calls without the other person's consent was legal in Iowa but not in Illinois at the time. The legality of Pearl's actions was at best questionable, although it can't be said to have been definitely illegal because the U.S. Supreme Court has never ruled on competing state laws concerning phone call recordings. There have also been questions about whether or not Pearl edited the tapes before giving them to the NCAA, Thomas has contended that a couple of his comments were made in different phone calls, yet on the tapes are all together as if the comments were made during the same call. Where Illinois REALLY screwed up was hiring Mike Slive to assist the school in the situation. Instead of doing his job, Slive decided Thomas, Henson and Collins had to be lying. Illinois fired Slive, who then went to the NCAA and along with Pearl pushed for the penalties that Illinois eventually received. The NCAA then went along and essentially took what Pearl and Slive presented as gospel while ignoring Thomas/Henson/Collins and overlooking the shoddy work done by their own investigators.
In the end, Illinois should have sued the NCAA to at least make the point that the NCAA's investigation was one-sided and that the penalties were too severe for the alleged actions. It is doubtful that Illinois would have won such a case, but the value of the litigation would have been better PR and a possible straightening out of the record. However, the administration and Mackovic were tired of the situation and didn't want to push the thing to court.
Moving back to tonight's games... I think Illinois falls to Clemson by 10 or 12... Duke blows Wisconsin out... Minnesota and Ohio State will win, leaving Michigan/Boston College as the swing game... I think Michigan wins in a tight one to give the Big Ten their first Challenge win.

Honest... Illinois ran out of gas. They, they had a flat tire. They didn't have enough money for cab fare. Their uniforms didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole their bus. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T THEIR FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD.

I'm 0-3 picking tonight. OFF TO THE POKER GAME!
The comeback doesn't change the fact that the Illini were not prepared for this game. Anyone watching the first half could see it in how poorly the team was handling Clemson's defense. However, in the second half the players stepped up and Weber (To his credit) helped with good coaching decisions. Switching to the zone early in the half took Clemson out of their game offensively, and the timeout he took with under a minute left to set up the eventual Tisdale shot was a smart call.

Ichabod Tisdale is awkward as hell on defensive rotations, doesn't have very good hands, and isn't as good of a rebounder as he should be, but I'll be damned if he isn't their go-to guy at the end of games. He's deadly from mid-range.

I was so fucking wrong about my own desire to know why BC hates Pearl. I feel like such a Chuck.

Dammit. Illinois appears to have a problem with multiple large men who can rebound and block shots. I think Georgia had about 400 points in the paint on Saturday.
Illinois faces Mizzou tomorrow night. I'll be there. Other than that, there isn't any commentary that I can add at this point.
Purdue struggled with its shot against the Iowa Whiteguyes and only won by 11. Next up is 6th-ranked WV at home on New Year's Day. A big game for the Boilers and the entire conference. Since your favorite teams can't stop stepping on their dicks, Purdue has to do the heavy lifting itself.
I predict a Boiler win by eight or so. They'll be hard-pressed to lose a home game this year and this will be their biggest test by far. Fuck your team.

Coming straight from the underground.
Purdue drubbed a banged-up and overrated WVU team by 15 at Mackey Arena today. And I also noticed that the Big Ten won one of those college football exhibtions. These are heady times indeed, my pedigree chums.

If only that information was on the internet somewhere. Ah yes. Unless you go third-party, it looks like the only ones left are $20. (http://ev10.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventInfo?ticketCode=GS%3AIBM%3AB09%3AB13%3A&linkID=nwu&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode=) StubHub probably starts around the same thing until it sells out (like Illinois) and ranges from $30 to $100+.

Purdue had beaten Wisconsin four straight times and was vying to become the first Big Ten team to beat them five straight under Bo Ryan. But... free throw shooting was their undoing. Wisconsin played a terrific game. They're going to be dangerous the rest of the way. They're very deep and play stifling defense. Tough as nails, these turds just won't go away. I no like.

[BC]Ok, one week in I'm going to Power Rank your Big Ten Men's Hoop Field. Why? Nobody asked me too and nobody cares but I like the sound of my own keyboard and it gives me a little extra rooting interest when I watch too many fucking games for my own good. So here we go:
1. Michigan State (13-3, 3-0)
In my heart I feel that Purdue will eventually overtake State for the conference lead. But they're undefeated in conference play and you have to knock out the champ before you can claim his hardware. Their next three games are all at home against Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa. They'll be 6-0 when they finally travel to play Michigan on Jan. 26. That's fair, I guess since their non-conference schedule was one of the nation's toughest. Fuck them in the eye with Magic's unsheathed Johnson.
2. Purdue (14-1, 2-1)
The loss at Wisconsin didn't expose them because by now everybody should know what they are. But they really aren't a high-scoring bunch. And their defense can't always bail them out - at least not on the road against ranked opponents. The loss of Lewis Jackson for the season to the foot injury has weakened their offense to a significant degree. It hadn't mattered until yesterday. There isn't much offense available off the bench. Not the kind that can make a difference in a game like Saturday's. I wouldn't say this team is a lock to win the Big Ten title because nobody ever is. But after seeing everybody play I have Purdue going 14-4, losing at Wisconsin, Illinois or Northwestern (not both, no. Fuck you.) Michigan State and Ohio State. Is that enough for an outright title or a share? We'll just sit back see how this plays out, but nobody beats them at home this year. Nooooobody.
3. Wisconsin (13-3, 3-1)
I admit that I'm shocked at how good this team is. They'd had two straight down years coming into this one and they've re-established their dominance at the Kohl Center, knocking of two top 10 teams in Duke and Purdue. They *Almost* beat Michigan State last week too. They have scoring depth on the frontline and the backcourt. But I just don't think they're talented enough to steal games on the road that they'd need to win the title. Still, I can clearly see this team reaching the Sweet 16 in March. I don't think I can say that about anybody below them on this list.
4. Minnesota (12-4, 3-1)
They have talent and they're well coached. How's that for analysis?
5. Illinois (11-5, 3-0)
Who have they beaten that's worth a shit? Clemson? Northewestern? Meh. Georgia? Missouri? Oh wait... After they brutally assrape Penn State on Tuesday they go to MSU, host Purdue and play at Northwestern. If they don't go 1-2 there, they're down for the count. Brandon (Shut up,) Paul (. You're a douche.) is amazing to watch though. One hopes they can get something out of him before he turns into a Clipper.
6. Ohio State (11-5, 1-3)
When Evan Turner gets back, look out for the... What? He's already back and he played in the loss at Minnesota yesterday? That's fucking ridiculous. Thad Motta should be fired. They're at Purdue, and hosting NU and Wisconsin before travelling to face No. 8 West Virginia in Morgantown on Jan. 23. We'll see what they are very soon. My gut tells me they're going to contend for third in this conference and have a shot at a long run in the NCAAs.
7. Michigan (8-6, 2-1)
Two really good players, Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims appear to all this team has going for it. I'm surprised at how poorly they've played and I think they'll struggle to make the NCAAs. Can they win 12 more games?
8. Northwestern (11-3, 0-2)
Meh.
9. Penn State (8-7, 0-3)
Yilch.
10. Indiana (7-8, 1-2)
Ghey.
11. Iowa (5-11, 0-4)
One hopes that Brad Stephens decides not to be Todd Lickliter and remains at Butler for a very, very long time. That one is my dad.[/BC]

Because their coach is a moron. Right? Right?
I really don't know what to make of this Illinois team. Paul is clearly the more talented of the freshmen, but I don't think he'll fully remove his head from his anus for another year or so. Kind of like how the whole team usually takes 12 minutes or so from the start of the game to remove their heads from their anuses. I've been more impressed with Richardson, he's already got some basketball smarts to complement his talent. Mike Davis is somehow averaging an insignificant double-double - he's been nonexistent offensively for a while now, and throws some lazy-ass passes to boot. McCamey has the same problem of drifting for long periods of time. This team is lucky that Mike Tisdale is the greatest scoring machine this side of the Mississippah. The guy clearly worked his ass off in the offseason - last year he could barely make it through 20 minutes without collapsing from exhaustion, this year he plays the whole game and has been their most consistent player. Here's my bold prediction for the Illini - Davis and Paul could suddenly GET IT, they max out their talent and make a run to the Sweet 16. OR they could sneak into the tourney as a 12 seed and get buttplugged like last year. Let's see how it plays out.
So there you go Apex, now you're not the only moran typing a bunch of words about your team. I have to disagree though when you say Purdue isn't a lock to win the conference. They're fucking good.
The Kansas Jayhawks want YouTube discoveries to meet On-Hoops (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1o2lOrhdAE)
Tisdale is mightily improved, but still struggles against power big men. He barely did anything against Gonzaga. It is a little strange having the 7 foot guy as the best foul shooter. Paul was hurt earlier this season during the Mizzou game, I don't know if he is riding the pine because of that or because he doesn't play defense. Mike Davis would put up 20-20 almost every night if he played with any real effort, but he just goes out there and loafs in almost every game. However, he can still put up a 12-10 because he has a nice outside jumper and can jump higher than anyone else for boards.
If gambling were legal and I had some money to burn, if that Illinois/PSU line ends up being closer than Illinois -7 then I would be putting some $ on Penn State.

If only there was a way to place sports bets...oh well.

Little-known fact: BC actually inspired the following exchange:
Dwight: Welcome to the Hotel Hell. Check in time now. Check out time is never.
Jim: Does my room have cable?
Dwight: No, and the sheets are made of fire!
Jim: Can I change rooms?
Dwight: No, we're all booked up. Hell convention in town!
Jim: Can I have a late check out?
[pauses]
Dwight: I'll have to talk to the manager.
Jim: You're not the manager...even in your own fantasy?
Dwight: I'm the owner....co-owner. With Satan!
Jim: Okay, just so I understand it...in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
Dwight: But I haven't told you my salary.
Jim: Go.
Dwight: Eighty thousand dollars a year!

Wisconsin F Joe Leuer out indefinitely with a broken wrist. Uh, oh!
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=ap-t25-wisconsin-leuerout&prov=ap&type=lgns
This obviously can't be good. But he did hurt that thing early against Purdue, stayed in the game and was pretty much a non-factor. If anything, he hurt them being in there because he was clearly not right - turning it over, tossing up airballs and such. Yet, Wisconsin still handled Purdue on the boards and managed to win despite his limited contribution. That said, Purdue had gameplanned for Leuer and Hughes and shut both of them down. The Badger bench played out of it's mind arse and fended off everything Purdue tried. I'm guessing that the other guys are role players for a reason and gameplanning for them ought to be easier with Leuer gone.
I'm not one to celebrate key injuries to teams I really don't care for and this is just that.
My bad. It turns out Leuer was a factor against Purdue as he grabbed 10 boards in the contest. So...
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Purdue sucks.
And Evan Turner is really God damn good. Can they hold the NBA draft like, tomorrow? I want that dude out of my life forever.
To be a ray of sunshine for Apex, sometimes great teams need a loss or two like the games Purdue has just had in the middle of the season. The 2005 North Carolina title team, the squad that only beat the best team Illinois has ever had for a national title, had a 13 point loss to Wake Forest on 1/15/05 after winning 13 of 14 games in double digits. After that, their only defeats were a one-pointer to Duke and a 3-point ACC Tournament loss to Georgia Tech*.
* = With quite possibly some of the most dubious officiating I have ever seen. The ACC knew heading into that game that UNC was a lock for a 1 seed while the Jackets were on the bubble for the Tournament...

I guess that was progression to the mean after shooting 10% for the entirety of a 3-game losing streak. And now there's a special league (http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/2010/01/19/nba_563760.shtml) for boys just like Bob.
QuoteA new professional basketball league boasting rosters made up exclusively of white Americans has its eyes set on Augusta, but the team isn't receiving a warm welcome.
QuoteDon "Moose" Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league's roster restrictions is not racism.
"There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."
Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas' indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans' dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.
"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."
Oh, my... God.

I can't wait to hear more about this idea. Because I have some questions.
- What if a person of color who wants to play a fundamental-style game wants to play?
- What if a person is of mixed-race and wants to play?
- What if a hispanic or Indian or Asian wants to play?
- What if a white guy playing in the league suddenly starts dribbling really fancily to get out of trouble and makes a sweet no-look pass to an open teammate? Technical foul?
- And what if that open teammate dunks with one hand? Technical foul?
- I'm assuming trash talk is absolutely out of the question but what about berating refs? Fair game?
It's not just that I don't think these yokels are smart enough to pull this off, but honestly, I don't think anybody could. Forget wondering who the fuck would pay to see it - how do you handle all these questions (and more, come on help me out!) in the league rules without your head fucking exploding? I know mine is about to burst right now.

Whining to refs is a long-standing tradition for white guys, so I assume that would be allowed, if not encouraged.

Game effort by the Hoosiers last night. Their improvement over last season is remarkable if you think about it. I'd say they're a player or two away from competing for a title in the Horizon League, though Butler would probably love to have them there to boost their own RPI and all that rot. If they did make the switch they probably wouldn't lead that conference in flailing, out-of-control layups that miss everything. But alas...

CHIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEF
[BC] Though nobody asked me again and nobody continues to give a shit, I've decided to rank your 2009-10 Big Ten Hoop Squads at the slightly-past-halfway stick. Go me.
1. Michigan State (19-4, 9-1)
It's halftime of the Illinois/MSU game and the Spartans trail the Illini by a point. The Kalen Lucas ankle injury will act as an equalizer in the standings. If Purdue can win on the weakened Spartans' home court on Tuesday, we could see four teams within a game of first place. Of those teams, assuming a healthy Lucas in a week or so, the Spartans are the deepest, biggest, most accomplished and experienced. They are the favorite to win the regular season title and make a deep run in March.
2. Ohio State (17-6, 7-3)
I told some of you in November that this team scares the living shit out of me. Then Evan Turner, hands-down the best player in the conference broke a bone in his back and they became just like everybody else for awhile. Well, Turner's back now and he single-handedly brought the Buckeyes back from a double digit deficit late in the second half at Mackey Arena. I wasn't shocked or surprised by what happened because I knew what these bastards are capable of when they have all their people together. I'm still scared of this team and absolutely hate the idea of Purdue playing them twice more this year. They could fucking ruin everything for me. GOD DAMN THEM
3. Purdue (19-3, 7-3)
The Boilers have won five straight since their three-game losing skid in mid-January. Lewis Jackson is back a month early from his broken foot and is playing his way into shape right now. Purdue's signature win this season was a 77-62 dismantling of No. 6 West Virginia way back on New Year's Day. It seems like it was six months ago. This team has shown the ability to grind out wins both home and away and nobody has been able to get separation from them in any game this year. Their three losses were by seven, four and eight points. They will battle any team in the country from bell-to-bell on any floor in the country. Is it enough? I know I'm not satisfied with it. It's time that the Jackson-lead offense catches up to the stifling defense and the Boilers start blowing the God damn doors off of some teams. That's the ceiling. I want to see them touch it.
4. Wisconsin (18-5, 8-3)
Tough team, still nearly impossible to beat at home but the Badgers are just not the same away from the Kohl Center. Bo Ryan's gang is 4-5 on opposing and neutral courts this year but only has to visit Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana. They should win at least two of those and win out at home to finish in the top three in the league. But watch them get bounced early at Conseco and from the big dance. I'm serious. Watch.
5. Illinois (15-8, 7-3)
The Illini and the Lucasless Spartans are tied at 45 in the second half as I type. If they win and get to 8-3 it would really help me out. Go Illini. Yay. After this game they'll go to Wisconsin (L), host Ohio State (L) and visit Purdue (L) and Michigan (?). Peace.
6. Minnesota (13-8, 4-5)
Meh.
7. Northwestern (15-7, 4-6)
I was in attendance at their butthole of an arena when they won a conference home game. Afterward, the students bumrushed the court and celebrated like they'd just won a championship or something. I've never understood the concept of flooding the court after wins over conference opponents, no matter how high they're ranked - in January. If you do it to lock up a share of the title or maybe a sure trip to the dance, go for it. Handle your bidness, brah. But fuck. That place smells of pure dogshit. I pray that I get to see a rematch of Purdue/NU at Conseco this year. As soon as the brackets come out I'm going to look for a chance and order tickets accordingly. I want this so badly it hurts my taint. Afterward, I'll say nothing to anyone. I'll just go home and rub aloe into my taint. Please, God. Let it be so.
8. Iowa (8-15, 2-8)
Sucks.
9. Indiana (9-12, 3-6)
It's kind of cute how happy they were to only lose by three on their home court to their arch rival the other night. It used to be that they wanted to fire a coach if he failed to make the Final Four and didn't throw chairs and flower pots at old women and slap students around. Now, I think they're just happy to have a warm building to sit and yell things at people. Have you heard about their recruiting class? It's supposed to be amazing. Like Notre Dame football amazing. I think these people have PTSD after getting slapped around by Knight for 29 years. I'm telling you they're not all there.
10. Michigan (11-11, 4-6)
Holy shit are they bad.
11. Penn State (8-14, 0-10)
Yeah. [/BC]
BC is rubbing warm aloe on his rubber girlfriend as we speak.
Way to rush the court you fucking nerds. Illinois has cemented itself as irrelevant. We used to be cool, too. I swear it. I was there once.
Fuck.

Any of you fuckwads want to get together and watch the Illinois/Suckdue game on the 20th? I have a couple of Boilermakers coming in from the SUBURBS and we're going to get down on it.
p.s. Kerm is rumored to be coming down also.

No. Polka's are lousy for clever hidden messages. The rap song wasn't intended to insult or anything. There's a commerical on the Big Ten Network in which Chuck D talks about the inception of the passing game and they show highlights of cool passes by Magic and others. The Public Enemy song is used. I couldn't find the commercial on YouTube so I linked the video of the song hoping you'd seen it. Basketball is fung.

For a bunch of brainy white guys, Northwestern sure does eat ass when it comes to hitting free throws. Holy cripes I want the 35 minutes I spent watching most of that second half back. That was some awful, awful basketball there, mister.

It's always cute when a real team goes to their high school gym and forgets to stop laughing until there are a couple minutes left. It happens.

It's always cute when a real team goes to their high school gym and forgets to stop laughing until there are a couple minutes left. It happens.
But if that ugly white guy didn't get hurt they'd have won more games!
But he did and they didn't.
Now let's never talk about Northwestern again.
What is this "Northwestern" you speak of?

For a bunch of brainy white guys, Northwestern sure does eat ass when it comes to hitting free throws. Holy cripes I want the 35 minutes I spent watching most of that second half back. That was some awful, awful basketball there, mister.
You watched this game? On purpose?
Yes, mostly out of curiosity. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about regarding Northwestenr; whether they were legitamtely in contention for their first-ever NCAA berth.
They're not.
I don't know what you've been reading, but nobody thought they were.

It's one of the 10 best schools in America and has an excellent Athletic Department when taking that into consideration.
The scores were simply keeping pace with the thread where we update everyone on teams they don't care about whenever something they don't care about takes place. So here's an update! NU played like a bunch of gutless assholes last night.

Illinois played pretty well for 30 minutes, however the Illini just have such a short bench that Purdue was able to wear them down.
I'm trying to restrain myself from making comments about officiating, but Curtis Shaw's performance in the last six minutes of today's game deserves a Hall of Shame nomination.

All those calls were completely legit. All of them.
Well, I'm not going to get into a debate on every specific call... The truly horrible call was Cole's fifth foul, no way in Hades was that a blocking... Especially since Richardson got called for a charge in the first half when the defender was moving and nowhere close to a position where a charge would have actually gained an advantage. The technical on Weber was also silly, what's the point of calling a T with 20 seconds left and the game decided unless the guy is either about to throw a chair or has called your mother 20 horrible names in a row?
Since 1996...
Most Technicals by an NCAA official...
1. Curtis Shaw 611
2. Karl Hess 410
Most Ejections...
1. Curtis Shaw 26
2. Steve Welmer 15
Forget about everything else for a moment, these two stats alone show that Mr. Shaw is way too emotional, hot-headed, or whatever other term you want to use to be an NCAA official, or at least be a good one.

Cole was under the basket. You can't stand there. Weber got T'd up so that Purdue could win by 10. That's a nice and tidy sum. Forget this game. Your Illini have work to do if they want to avoid an 8/9 seed and a quick exit in March.

I would take an 8 or 9 seed right now and call it a day for the rest of the regular season and Big Ten Tournament. This team is just so damn inconsistent... Beating Michigan State at home and Wisconsin on the road while losing to Bradley and Utah in the same season...

What did you expect? It's been a fun year if you ask me. They've done much better than I thought they would do and have been in almost every game. Next year is when the expectations shoot through the roof. With the excellent freshman coming in and McCamey dominating when he feels like it, it's going to be a lot of fun to watch. For now, I'll be happy with some tournament experience and knowing they'll be able to spring an upset if McCamey and Davis decide to bring their give-a-shit.

I don't understand why a 10 or 11 is better than an 8 or a 9. It's kind of Chuckish to drop such a ridiculous statement on an unsuspecting messageboard and then just stand back and watch it splatter all over the room. Please explain.

I'd have to assume because they'd be more likely to be able to get out of the second round. That all hinges off of them winning the first round game, though.

I should have looked at the numbers before writing. A #10 is probably better than an #8 or #9, since you avoid the #1 seed in the second round.
#10 seeds beat #7 seeds about 39% of the time in round one and beat #2 seeds a little of 42% of the time in round 2.
#8 vs. #9 games are a 50-50 split, and the #8/#9 seed wins about 14% of the time in round 2 vs. #1 seeds.
#11 seeds beat #6 seeds about 31% of the time, but #3 seeds beat #11s almost 90%.
Looking purely at these percentages, a #10 seed has about a 16% chance of advancing to the Sweet 16, a #8/9 has about a 7% chance, and a #11 has about a 3% chance.
I think. I'm sure there is plenty of math fail in there.
I would assume some of the disparity also has to do with the fact that it seems
that weaker teams from strong conferences seem more likely to get the 8/9
type seeds, where as strong teams from weak conferences tend to get the 10-12
and strong teams from weak conferences have a higher chance of going on a roll.
Of course, I could just be talking out of my ass. I lack BC's college basketball
acumen.

The Big Ten title is still within reach. Then we'll just have to see how it all plays out. Purdue was clearly one of the nation's five best teams over the past six weeks. Without Hummel they'll probably be in the top 8-12. Things are still possible but... shit. Fuck my life in the face with a stained-glass dilrod.

Can we sit in front of Huey so I can stand up and cheer while a big play is hai, rather than waiting for the official first down signal from Hochuli?

No.
I do feel bad for the Purdue fans out there, hate to see a season wrecked by an injury such as Hummel's. The rest of the team is still good enough to make a Sweet 16, but the Final Four sadly seems to be out of the realm of possibility at this point.

I wish I could quit them.
Purdue needed Hummel to step up today and whack one of those big bastards for State in the head with those crutches of his. But no. He just sat there looking indifferent and hang-doggish, offering very little encouragement or side-coaching. Pretty pathetic effort if you ask me. I think he got hurt on purpose so he wouldn't have to practice or play anymore. If he was in any kind of shape he wouldn't of gotten hurt so easily anyway. Nobody even touched his candy ass. He just took a little hop and "OH NO MY KNEE!!!"
Fucking bitch-made pussy ass cunt.

I know. I saw them play against Butler. It's not like Purdue can't grind out a win against them though. Most teams won't be ready for what Purdue can do to them defensively. The major problem will be rebounding of course. If Purdue can shoot a decent percentage unlike their previous, oh, seven games, they will make the Sweet 16. I have nothing of value riding on that assertion. It's just a fan talking out his ass at this point.
