OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

That's really fucked up. He was my favorite active non-Cubs pitcher.

His slider and fastball were so impressive, but it turns out he had a killer sinker.

Jason Heyward is a guy who plays baseball. He plays it for the Cubs now, but he used to play it for the Cardinals and the Braves. He once made Carlos Zambrano clearly pissed on Opening Day 2010. He once was good at baseball like Carlos Zambrano was good at baseball. Carlos Zambrano was at Wrigley Field yesterday. Jason Heyward runs the bases well. He also plays right field as well as any Cub I remember since Andre Dawson. Andre Dawson used to play for the Cubs in the 1980s, coming here as a free agent in early March 1987. The Number One song in early March 1987 was Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi is from New Jersey. The Governor of New Jersey is Chris Christie. My brother and I literally bumped into an orange-sweater clad Chris Christie before Game 3 of the 2015 NLCS. Chris Christie was a guest of the Ricketts family. Back in 1987, my junior high band teacher was Mr. Christie. I think his first name is John. I really enjoyed the 1987 baseball season, as Andre Dawson was the Cubs right fielder and he hit everything in sight, the Brewers won the first 13 games of the season and the Tigers and Blue Jays fought to the end for the AL East title. Also, the Giants should have beaten the Cardinals in the NLCS. Raise your hand if you loved Jeff (or is it Jeffrey) Leonard and his one-flap down home run trot during the 1987 NLCS? Why did Roger Craig start Atlee Hamaker in Game 7? No matter, the 85-win Twins beat the Cardinals in that World Series and it was cool when Don Baylor and Kent Hrbek hit a three-run homer and a grand slam, respectively in Game 6 in Minnesota. The capital of Minnesota is St. Paul. St. Paul was originally known as Saul, but changed his name upon his conversion to Christianity. St. Paul was a prolific writer. He is in fact the patron saint of writing, journalism, publishing, and probably even blogging and messageboard trolling. I'm not sure how St. Paul compares to Kierekegaard. Kierkegaard is Danish. Occasionally, I will enjoy a Danish in the morning. Fast fact: Tonker is not Danish, nor Deutsch, nor Dutch, even though he is supposedly one by residence and another by marriage.

In other words, the Cubs are 12 games up on the Cardinals, and we're bitching about a guy who has cost the Cubs exactly what this year?

I'm coming up for the hockey game at Soldier Field and was thinking about hitting Burt's. Is that worth a special trip, and assuming it is, is it recommended to call a day in advance or two?

Also, the stuff they call pizza here in Ohio sucks balls.

Never been, heard great things.  I believe it's order-ahead-but-dine-in or at least DON'T show up without a "reservation".  But I've heard great things about the pizza.

Reservations are definitely mandatory (that is: not just super duper recommended, but required), as is ordering ahead.

Empty tables or no, Burt will turn you away at the door if you don't have a reso. (He may well even direct you directly into the arms of the Pequod's right around the corner, where you'll find some pretty damn similar pizza.)

But the pizza is good, and probably worth the hassle. And, honestly, if you have the time to plan ahead, the order-ahead thing actually makes the experience better. Your pizza should be ready shortly after you sit down, as opposed to Pequod's (or any number of other places) where you might wait 30 minutes to an hour for a table and then another 45+ minutes for your pizza.

Burt has had health issues lately and he closed the restaurant for a few weeks in the early Fall. When you call ahead, let the phone ring multiple times: they have no auto-attendant or answering machine or hot receptionist. You're getting Burt or his wife. When they've decided they've done enough for the day, they'll leave the phone off the hook.

It is a short walk from the Morton Grove Metra station, but in winter weather, just drive up.

Looks like the phone will be staying off the hook for good.

Shame.  Not ever having patronized Burt's will prove to be one of my greatest regrets in life.

I liked Burt's, but trust me, you're capable of far larger regrets.

Burt Katz has passed away.

3-3 with nobody on and shit behind him but he GIDP on the first hard hit ball he has all night with the bases loaded. My God.

Saved a no-hitter though, so he's ok by me

Cost the perfect game at the time with his error, so there's that.

I could pay my mortgage for months with my tickets to Monday's game. I wouldn't miss it for a condo in Maui.

I just looked for the helluva it. SROs are over $1,000 each. Fuck.

Out of curiosity, is there a difference in SRO tickets in terms of where you can SR?

One win away with Game 6 in Chicago. Fuck yeah.

God damn this forward corps has to be one of the deepest in league history.

How about some splooging for these not gutless non-assholes?

Twenty minutes away from the SCF and my operation to save my liver.

Um, have you been watching this series?  Don't you think your splooging might be a little premature?  (Heh.)

Edit: Cleared to splooge.  HAWKS HAWKS HAWKS HAWKS

Yeah, but I felt like after the way they played for the first 40 they weren't '03 LCS-ing that game away.

Plus I predicted that I would be really drunk by the end of Game 6, and I was right about that.

As is well documented, I don't give any shits about hockey, but I have no idea how you guys do this all the time.

Seems like every single Blackhawks playoff game goes at least 1 overtime and the entire time is completely anxiety-filled, non-stop action.

I can only assume you use each period/overtime break to chase down 5 joints with a bottle of Valium.

You people are insane.

That's about right. Why would anyone want to watch a sport that's non-stop action?

I think I'm finally sobering up from last night. Damn that was intense.
