The Nats feel like Lastings is regressing in both talent and attitude and they just wanted him gone.  Nyjer will play center most of the time in Washington because Elijah can't handle it defensively. 

The Pirates decided to take a chance on Lastings because he's younger and better than Nyjer and they have their CF in McCutcheon.  Not a bad gamble.

The Nats are going to try to be busy this month, as they'd like to find new homes for Dukes, kEARnS, Ronnie Belliard and Nick Johnson.  Good luck to them on those efforts.  Johnson's probably the most valuable but he's made out of glass, so they'd better hurry up.  They're hoping that Lowell's hip doesn't respond to rest and the Red Sox decide to take Johnson and have Youkilis play third the rest of the season.
